If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2009 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 with 138k miles. Looking to change my power steering fluid. Manual says use PSF-3.
Couple of questions:

1. Is Prestone Asian Power Steering Fluid okay to use? I can’t seem to find any literature on what type of PSF it is.

2. Is it okay to mix with the pre-existing liquid? The color of the liquid in the car is dark, can’t tell what the original color was.

3. What PSF liquids do you recommend to use if not the OEM dealer ones? I try to not buy from them if possible.

4. Any instruction on how to do a drain? I only know how to do the turkey baster method as of now.

Any info helps. Thanks

Follow the video, you need to change the power steering fluid 3-4 times until the old fluid is clear.

Every time after refilling , drive your car for a while.

Is this okay to use for the 2009 3.8 V6?

every psf-3 type fluid is ok

I don’t think the power steering fluid is very important. It’s only a hydraulic oil.

sometimes I use psf-3, A/T transmission oil, chf11s, chf202..

different power steering fluid makes steering heavier or lighter.

Be careful with the fluid. I've owned a couple of vehicles where everyone said "just use a close spec" but using non oem fluid caused a whine. It's something you do SO rarely that imo it's worth just using oem fluid. Same with trans. I do the "drain and fill" listed earlier - suck out fluid from reservoir, replace with new, drive 50-60 miles, repeat

Thanks for the replies.
I’ve successfully done the drain and fill.
Went to O’Reillys for the power steering fluid.
I bought a quart of LubeGuard Complete Synthetic PSF.
Checked and reviewed the product and yes it can be used as replacement for PSF-3 which is listed in the manual.
Old oil looked dirty as all heck, I’ll be doing it a couple more times to make sure it’s all clean.
Attached is the applications for LubeGuard if you are looking for something to use.995C052D-C264-4B17-89C3-1A94B8F455AA.webp

Fluid changes are important. Fluid breaks down, is sometimes exposed to moisture, and it is whole lot cheaper to change than replacing a unit that has problems because it has been running in contaminate.

I noticed that the German made Pentosin power steering fluid CHF 202 is listed as a synthetic option on Carid.com. Has anyone used the Pentosin synthetic power steering fluid in their Genesis ?

Pentosin power steering fluid CHF 202 on sale at Amazon for around $14 now - this is for EHPS enabled models. The ones with cylindrical reservoirs are non-EHPS models.

Hey guys,
Interesting. I want to change out my PS fluid too.

When my mechanic removed and installed a re-man engine, do you think he needed to put in new PS fluid? Like it had to be drained when the engine was removed?

(I could ask my mechanic but he's so secretive with his work!!! Says very little!)
