  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, I own a 2012 v6 tech Genesis sedan

I've noticed that the power steering fluid is at the "low mark" I would like to top it to the full line to monitor if I'm having an issue. which power streering fluid should I buy to top it off? I know it's always delicate as each manufacturer have it's specification. What should I look for? Should I only trust dealer PS fluid that they'll prob sell me 3x the price than any part store?

Bought 2 qts of this and used a 1/4 inch clear tube to siphon out the old fluid with 70k miles on it and re-fill. Drove it a few days and repeated the process 4 more times. Fluid nice and clear and fresh now. Very easy process and only $30 for a little piece of mind. BTW, I have the non-electric assist steering, the electric assist may need a different fluid

finally I went to the dealer and I've been told to buy the PSF-4 for every genesis sedan.

LubeGaurd is PSF 4. Don't get suckered into buying the dealership stuff when it comes to fluids. They don't manufacture any, they buy it from big lube company's and sell at giant markups.

Totally agree that's why I asked the question first. But since I had no answer, I went to the dealer and bought a little bottle for approx 10$. cheap enough not to care!!

Changed the power steering fluid in my 2010 3.8 without EHPS last weekend. Other than a VIN check easiest way to tell if you have EHPS is the location and shape of your resevoir. If it is cylindrical and behing the radiator in the center you do not have it. If offset to passenger side to the left of the airbox and not cylindrical you do have EHPS. Could be different for 2011 through 2014, my FSM is for 2009 model.

Planned on siphoning contents from the reservoir, refilling, and repeating later. I did siphon the reservoir but upon inspection the fluid was red, not green like PSF-4. Since my car was late 2009 production I'm guessing it had the older PSF-3 which Hyundai doesn't recommend mixing. To my knowledge it is the original fluid. Purchased with 19k so doubt it was changed before my ownership.

The Hyundai bottle states "PSF-4 is acceptable as a top-off fluid for systems containing PSF-3, or for use as a replacement fluid for PSF-3 systems provideding the system is fully drained before refilling with PSF-4."

Ended up following the FSM to drain/remove all existing fluid from the system. Drained by removing return line and turning steering wheel back and forth, forcing all fluid out. Put hose back and filled to the COLD Max line. Turn wheel back and forth and refilled until full while car is running.

I saw Pentosin on sale and thought about buying one today, glad I checked and yes - the reservoir should tell you easily what fluid to put in. round for non-EHPS models.

How does one find out if they have electronic PS? Mine is a 2012 3.8 with the premium package (not tech). Thanks!

From your owner's manual, it appears that you can tell via the location of the PS fluid reservoir.
