  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Folks I am new to the forum I have a 2013 Genesis Sedan 5.0 R Spec V8 and am having steering problems Changed two EHPS pumps properly flushed fluid as per manual instruction, turned steering wheel lock to lock 100 times to eliminate air All this time with the two front wheels on jack stands Everything was smooth with the front wheels in the air but once I disengaged the jack stands dropped the vehicle on the ground that smooth steering wheel motion disappeared instantly Wheel became stiff and binding It was not the EHPS because these worked well on my friend's Genesis Does anyone have a clue why am not getting any power steering assist when the wheels are on the ground under vehicle weight and pressure and vice versa??? Could it be a bad rack and pinion I need help

Moved to proper forum.

Does it feel like there isn't any assist from the power steering system? What lead you to change the pumps in the first place? Is the HECU throwing any codes? Tomorrow I will hook up my 2 way scanner and see if it can pull codes or run tests on my system.

Yes it feels like completely no assist to the steering wheel whenever the vehicle 4 tires are on the ground I had a minor collision on the front passenger side EHPS pump was not damaged however the EHPS pump bracket was dislocated That's when I started feeding the stiffness in steering So I Repaired the minor body damage and Replaced two different functional EHPS pumps with new brackets to no avail What I don't understand is power steering and assist is only functional when the two from tires are on jack stands in the air Am starting to think it's that rack and pinion I don't have any codes being read on the scanner All EHPS fuses are good the 10 and the 80 AMP

If its in the air its fairly easy to turn the wheels even if there is no power steering. Did you lose any fluids? Are there any kinked lines on the rack itself? If the pumps are fine then I hope its just a power steering fluid line that is kinked or damaged.

Thank for asking no kinked lines They don't look that bad and No loss of fluid liking at all

Do

Do you suggest I jack it up and follow steps: 1) Recheck EHPS pump pulse 2) Completely recheck high and low pressure lines Then what could be the next culprit causing steering wheel stiffness if it happens to be neither of the above?? I need check pulse at high pressure terminal on the EHPS pump itself after 5 minutes No leaking fluid so far though

Is it the right pump because the 3.8 pump is different from the 5.0? If the pump checks out, and the pinion valve checks out then the only thing left is the rack.

You are most likely on point on that I just ordered me a whole other Rack and Pinion I got frustrated

I finally got my EHPS power steering issue resolved after purchasing two EHPS pumps and a good rack from Ebay for absolutely nothing There's was absolutely NO reason for me to even purchase all that. All along the strange problem was in my face while I was running around purchasing irrelevant parts. Come to find out it was just the wiring harness plug that functions as a speed actuator to the EHPS pump Imagine that
