  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you guys use premium fuel in your Genesis?

Never did. If owners manual says it's not needed, then don't waste your money.

There are 100's of threads on this site arguing about it. Feel free to use the "Search" function to read them.

Minimum 91, 93 if available..
Why, does your specific model say you must use fuel over the normal 87 octane? If it doesn't, then you are wasting money.

Why? Well, in high compression engines higher octane is needed to prevent detonation. Now, while yes you can run 87 and be fine, the engine mgt. will make adjustments for this to also prevent detonation, knocking, pinging etc. which can result in a fuel milage reduction or reduction in performance.

The real question is why are you so concerned with what others spend?

Right on the fuel door "Premium Fuel Recommended" 3.5 twin turbo model.

People are funny, they will drive miles across town, wait in line for however long it takes to save 3 or 4 dollars per tankful..To each his/her own, I guess.

Makes a difference on the turbo.

In my 3.8 Genesis, tried a tank of premium and saw no difference. In my 1.6 Turbo Sonata, make a difference, especially in the 2 - 4k RPM range. Much smoother. Cruising the highway at 75, no difference.

From what I have read in the tons of other posts on this subject is that our engines are not a real high compression turbo. I don't have personal factual knowledge of this, but thats what people claim. It's really up to you. Your car should run find on regular. But just for piece of mind, use premium. But what is more important than the grade in the Genesis is that you use a "Top Tier" gasoline.
I use premium, but drive very little. If I was racking up the miles, it would be regular or maybe the mid grade as there is a big difference in the price.

It's a matter of "recommended" vs "required".

But wait, let me get my popcorn before we go on 😂
I'd like butter on mine, thanks.

I'm a bit perplexed here. If you fill up one time with premium, are you committed to using it forever? Or is it allowed to try a tank or two and see if it affects your particular driving style.

Seems my grandson would use it to shave 1/96 of a second off the 0 to 60 time but my 96 year old mother may not notice any difference.
