2015 Genesis

Hyundai just show off what the 2015 Genesis can do.

Tried the lane following this morning at 45 mph on a deserted, gently curving road with no traffic and wide shoulders. It kind of gently banked off the center line and the shoulder line around several gentle curves for maybe half a mile before the beeper sounded, the cruise control went off, and I got the "Please put your hands on the wheel" message.

The haptic feedback is making a better driver of me. I'm now noticing all the places on our curvy roads where I have flirted with the lines for years, especially the shoulder line where I would slightly cut the corners.

I had a demonstration of the emergency braking on my first drive home from the dealer when a stake truck had a transmission lockup in front of me at about 60. The brakes were on hard before I could even get my foot on the pedal. Worth its weight in gold!

You mean the LKAS system don't you ?
Wasn't aware that the Smart Cruise had an input time out.
There was never any mention of it in any thing I've read so far.
What would that input be the steering ?

My A6 has these features and I love them. Although on my A6 the lane keep assist is a bit aggressive before you get near lane markers.

Curious as to what setting you had set? pre-departure or post-departure - I am presuming pre-departure or if you had tried both to report on the subtle differences in a real life test.

Pre-departure.

Correction on the quote: the cruise control did not go off, only the lane following cancelled. I was misled because the cruise control image in the HUD disappeared for a while when the "hand on" message appeared. I repeated the test this morning on the same stretch of road with the same results.

Last night was my first experience with the automatic headlights. They really work well. They also dim for tail lights in a very courteous way. I did notice that they dimmed for a double red traffic light as I crested a hill. The car obviously misidentified the two red lights as a car in front of me. They also dimmed for two very bright roadside reflectors as I rounded a curve; it probably identified them as headlights.

"Ginny" also politely reminded me of several sharp curves on the back road I was on. I was a bit startled by the first announcement.

Please explain. You got a warning due to sharp turns ahead? What type of warning?

A very sweet voice, out of the blue, said "Curve ahead." When I was running at 70, she warned me about a half-mile ahead of a right-angle curve. When I was running about 35-40 on a winding back road, the warning was maybe 150-200 yards ahead of the curve. I was running with cruise control on but no navigation destination set. Apparently the curve has too be approaching 90 degrees for the warning to happen.

That is awesome. These cars seem to have more bells an whistles then they ever mentioned in any of the reviews I have seen. Keep your posts coming as you learn your new Genesis.
