  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I recently started having a problem which is causing the black plastic around the inner lip of the bumper in the wheel well to keep popping out.

The plastic part of the bumper that holds it in place is roughly 1/4" in width at best and it appears that it keeps flexing enough to allow the black insert enough room to slide out from behind it. It happens when I get the car washed and also when I get up to speeds of 50+ mph, or go over speed bumps.

I talked to my service department manager today and he looked up TSB's to see if anything had been noted about this issue, nothing was listed. We went onto the showroom floor and looked at a 2012 and noticed that the material used inside the well has been changed and they also put some sort of cross brace behind it to prevent it from being able to flex.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with their 09-11 Genny?.....Thanks :)

Mine is the same and I tried to put a screw to hold it in place but it didn't hold.

What year is your car?....thanks :)

....this is what my service rep suggested was putting a couple nuts/bolts through that 1/4" plastic lip into the wheel well molding, the problem I could immediately see in doing that would be as soon as it flexes the stress would just rip the bolt right through that little lip. Also I thought about velcro, but it's such a high stress/heat spot I'd think the velcro would just lose adhesion.

I don't see any of these as a viable solution, it would seem by the redesign of that area in the 2012 that they knew it to be a problem and addressed it in this years model. The popping out is annoying but the biggest issue is the weird noise it creates at highway speeds when it does pop loose.

nobody else has this problem happening ??....I will have to take a picture of it tomorrow if the weather permits and add it to my post...happens on both sides.

double sided tape 3-4 " strip should do the trick

I guess this thread is a little old, but I've had this same issue. It didn't happen very often, and when it did, I'd just push it back in until it "clicked" and it would usually be fine for quite a while. Only happened on the front passenger side, never the driver side.

Unfortunately, today I was backing out of the garage and it had popped out far enough on the passenger side to catch on the side of the garage door frame - ripped the plastic wraparound on the front of the car! I thought I had ran over something in the driveway. By the time I figured out what was going on, the front wheelwell cover/bumper had been ripped out about a foot, and was cracked near the front license plate holder.

Next week I'll try to get this fixed as a warranty repair, hoping the don't give me a lot of trouble with that.
