I have had a problem with the navigation system loosing data that has been stored. I filled the gas tank twice now and each time when I restarted the car the navigation system had lost all of the information stored in the memory. Luckily I have not stored that many things in the memory. I had stored my home address and a couple of destinations. I am pretty sure that the information has been lost when I filled the gas tank. I can't figure out why this would be but both times after filling the tank I expected the system to continue guiding me to my destination but when I looked the destination was no longer there and all other saved destinations were gone. I know there is reset selection but I am positive I did not make that selection.

I assume that no one else had had this problem since I don't see any other similar posts.

I probably won't fill the tank again for quite a while. I am now driving the other car trying to use up the gas before I give it back to Chrysler at the end of the lease.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I have had a problem with the navigation system loosing data that has been stored.

Haven't had that problem, but it may be related to the following from page 133 of the Genesis manual:

Average fuel consumption (if equipped)

(MPG or
l/100 km)

This mode calculates the average fuel

consumption from the total fuel used and
the distance since the last average consumption
reset. The total fuel used is calculated
from the fuel consumption input.
For an accurate calculation, drive more
than 0.03 miles (50 m).
Pressing the RESET button for more than
1 second, when the average fuel consumption
is being displayed, clears the
average fuel consumption to zero (----).
If the vehicle speed exceeds 1.6 MPH (1
km/h) after refueled more than 1.6 gallons
(6
l), the average fuel consumption will be cleared to zero (---).

Sounds like something is connected wrong.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I filled up this morning, and had noticed that the avg. fuel economy resets every time you fill-er-up. (I am used to having a "lifetime" economy reading). Doesn't answer Richard's question though. My Infiniti normally asks if you want to resume directions if you stop in the middle of a trip. Hopefully this is not another electrical ghost in the system.

I set Home and Office into the system, but have not used the map for directions yet. I will check to make sure my favorite points are still configured and let you know if not...

Richard,
As I drove off from the Discover Genesis Miami event today, I went to set the Nav-comp to "home". However I discovered my vehicle has lost my location presets, so I can confirm I have the same problem.

I had programmed HOME and OFFICE. Both of these locations had been forgotten, and my address book was now empty. I tested to see if it had nothing to do with being in park etc. I will pay particular attention when I full up in the next few days to see if I can confirm when the car wipes the memory.... Definitely a problem there though!

If I understand correctly, you had not just filled the tank, correct?

The problem I mentioned at the Discover Genesis event about the system not recognizing my voice turns out to be a non problem. My partner had turned the volume down to zero so I couldn't hear it responding.

DITTO for me. After I left you guys, stopped around the corner for a fill-up before heading out. Went to select HOME as the destination for NAV and everything was gone. Unfortunately, while sitting at the gas pump I reset the AVG MPG manually, so will have to get another tank of gas this week to check if it resets automatically like it says in the manual. I'm thinking the NAV and AVG MPG gage are programmed backwards. This is a HUGE problem, as I had spent over an hour learning the system and entering 15 or so destinations. Easy to fix though, if the issue can get directed to the right place.

I assume it's a software glitch and hopfully you are correct that there's an easy fix.

Keep us informed.

I probably won't get any gas for a while. Still trying to use up the gas in the Chrysler before I give it back.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I am not big on Nav directions as I never get lost :D
So I dont usually pay attention to the address book.
I started out today with 1/2 a tank, and right now my range is about 80 so I will be filling up soon. I will confirm if fill-up wipes my nav address memory.

Try explaining this one to the service writer. LOL.
Will have to do the before and after test.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I'm testing today as well. We know it will wipe the nav data, what we need to check is how much gas it takes to do that [supposedly 1.6 gal] and also check if the AVG MPG is being reset or not. I have a feeling these functions are swapped in the software. This can't be a dealer fix, even if they understand the problem. I doubt we can get to Korea [which is where this needs to be fixed], but we certainly need to elevate this to a very high level at Hyundai USA and let it percolate down, rather than wind its way up through the field service network. I will be happy to undertake this project tomorrow. I will include my VIN in the report. If others with this issue want me to add their VIN to the list, send it to me via PM. Based on the cars reporting so far, we know this affects at least the southern region. My guess is this affects everyone.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

8/24/08 Test Results

Entered "HOME" in nav system
Filled up with 10gal
AVG MPG reset automatically as soon as we reached 1.6mph [trip computer]
HOME destination in nav system DID NOT reset. Worked fine.

Need someone to check the following scenario:
Add a home or work destination in NAV as well as 1 or more entries in nav address book.
Fill up with gas
Set trip computer to AVG MPG
Record what happens when you leave the station. [check to see AVG MPG resets, and see what happens in the nav address book]

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I have to say all of you guys reporting Nav problems and the back vents blowing super hot air doesn't give me a real good feeling.

You would think that most of the problems would have been ironed out on the early Korean models. I mean I assume they are enough alike as far as the nav. system and rear vents are concerned.

I find it a bit troubling that out of not that many Genesis owners we have this many problems coming up.

As I have said before I got my 2006 Azera first year out and have had no issues with it what so ever so I am spoiled by that and now measure all other cars to that.

Now I know the Genesis is a far more complicated car and all but gee wiz you guys are making me consider now waiting until next year with all the problems being reported.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

Duaine, don't hit the panic button just yet. I think we are still figuring out how everything works!

I just filled up my tank with $60 worth. The MPG data reset as advertised, and my Home location in the address book remained. So I cannot say why the address book lost it's 2 stored locations the first time. I will keep monitoring it to see if it was triggered by a certain event or if perhaps user input caused it.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

Well no I am not about to give up as of yet. There is just to much about the Genesis that I like and would really like to own very soon.

I am thankful for this forum so that we can share information. I am not putting the Genesis down by no means.

I do feel bad if you guys are having some problems. Hopefully they are minor glitches with easy fixes.

That's why I'm hoping for one more test with both home and some address book entries defined. When we had the problem, all 3 of us had entries in both places. Now with only home saved and addr book empty we have had two successes. Weird

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I have filled up the tank 5 times already without this problem happening. However, a couple of nights ago, I drove my car during a strong downpour and heavy winds (Thanks to Tropical Storm Fay). The next morning, when I started the car, my data had been erased.

In my case it is not related to the gas fill up, but I do remember doing something different: I discovered that I can adjust the volume of the NAV directions voice by hitting the MAP button, and while the directions are being spoken, I can adjust the volume of the voice without going to the settings menu. I did this the night of the storm, before getting to my destination.

A couple of times I have noticed that the directions voice volume has changed, as well as the bluetooth/phone volume level changed without apparent reason. I constantly reset the MPG reading manually and have not lost any data doing this.

I would also thing the Korean version should have this glitch solved by now. If in Korea they use the metric system, maybe this glitch is happening on cars using the English measuring system. Would be interesting to know if it happens in the Canadian version...

By the way, I used to wholesale cars and have made the Ft Lauderdale - Orlando trip in over 300 different (used) cars taking them to the auction. Most of the cars where hiline (luxury) models including MB, BMW, Infinity, Lexus, Acura, Cadillac and Lincolns. Not one car I remember driving was such a pleasure to drive long distance as this incredible Genesis is!

So you are in the FL crowd of owners. :) What's the last 5 digits on your VIN? Maybe we can narrow this down to a block of cars.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

Well my Home position is still locked on.

While playing with the voice commands on this morning's commute I came across a new Nav feature, but I still need to test it... Say PHONE NUMBER SEARCH

You speak the 9-digit phone number in 3 number blocks, then say BEGIN ROUTE GUIDANCE. If it finds a match the system will reverse look-up a nav destination based on phone number on file for POI points of interest. Unfortunately it will not reverse-look-up every phone number, as I tried my home and office and it came back with 'not found'. Can anyone else verify if this works for you?

HOW AM I GOING TO EXPLAIN THAT TO MY WIFE:confused: To her, reverse look-up is when you look at the DIS display screen while shifting into reverse.:D

Richard:

Do you recall when you had this problem if you had been in rain before you turned the car off?
