Problems with Navigation and System Data - Reset or Lost

Re: Navigation System - lost data

Richard,
As I drove off from the Discover Genesis Miami event today, I went to set the Nav-comp to "home". However I discovered my vehicle has lost my location presets, so I can confirm I have the same problem.

I had programmed HOME and OFFICE. Both of these locations had been forgotten, and my address book was now empty. I tested to see if it had nothing to do with being in park etc. I will pay particular attention when I full up in the next few days to see if I can confirm when the car wipes the memory.... Definitely a problem there though!
Simon:

Do you recall if you drove through heavy rain on the way to the event. If you did, we seem to have the same scenario, only not fueling related. NAV ok to event, drive through rain, turn off car, restart, NAV data gone. In my case, I just didn't notice it until after I got gas and tried to set HOME as a destination. This would correlate with what Goodmove reports, failing after heavy rain. Waiting on a reply from Richard to see if his failure was rain related.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

New NAV system issue - After losing the system as described previously, I re-entered a HOME destination and that worked fine. It also remained after a gas fill-up. Today I went to enter address book locations into the system to continue testing and it responded rather slowly. After a couple of attemps I realized that even after selecting "save to address book" the system was not saving anything. The HOME position remained OK, but the system would not save addresses into WORK, FAVs or Address Book. After another try the system just locked up and I got a screen message "NAV System Restarting", which I assume is akin to re-booting your PC. When the system came back up, it was working at normal speed again, but no way would save any addresses. I was forced to select "Restore Factory Settings" on the NAV menu, which I did, and the system is now working perfectly. Loaded HOME again, as well as 3 address book entries, no problem. Went and got gas, all entries remained, no problem.

The mystery continues....stay tuned :)

Re: Navigation System - lost data

Ric,

It was raining when I left my house, but what else is new in SoFla?

My Nav presets for office and home are still locked on as of an hour ago. Sorry to hear your system re-booted. As an "early-adopter" I am used to dealing with new technologies but if our Genesis has an Achilles heel it is the quirks of the DIS...

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I got the same problem after tunk refill may be #10 (yes, I drive a lot, made 2600 in 6 weeks). No apparent reason, usual stuff, same gas station. But when I said "navigate home" everything in address book been wiped out. BTW, I noticed MPG automatic reset from very begining and didn't like it. I prefer life time monitoring, besides I prefer to control everything myself.

Thanks Vladroy! Where are you located? Everyone had been silent on this issue for a couple of weeks. So, before your fill-up #10, you had programmed in a "Home" location, as well as multiple entries in your address book? When you stopped for gas had you been "navigating", i.e. everything was working normally? Any water involved? Had it been raining or perhaps a car wash? Approximately how many locations were in your address book?

My last "test", trying to duplicate this problem, was to get a fill-up and leave the wipers in the AUTO position. Nothing! MPG reset as advertised and NAV stayed perfect.

If you folks with the DIS can contribute more scenarios to this issue, we will get it figured out. :)

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I have now filled up three times. The first two times that I filled the tank I believe I had the GPS system activated when I turned the engine off and filled the tank. So when I restarted the car the GPS was immediately activated and the data lost. The third time I purposely deactivated the GPS system by hitting the XP Radio control before turning off the engine and filling the tank. This time I did not lose the data on the GPS. Next time I fill up I will leave the GPS system activated and see what happens.

It may be a while before I fill up. I drive less than 4,000 miles a year. It was a particularly long time between the second and third fill ups because I was trying to use up the gas in a lease car before turning it in.

Wow! I just cleared 3K miles today, and I bought this car on Aug 2nd! Too bad we live so far apart, or I'd volunteer to "give your car some TLC" when you weren't using it.

I don't know if you bought or leased, but if it's the latter, whoever picks up your car later on is gonna get a great deal...

Interesting! To be clear, the first two times you had a destination set, and were actively navigating to that location when you stopped for gas? The GPS never really goes off. You can select any other feature for "viewing" and the NAV is clicking away in the background. If you re-select NAV, the display comes back and shows exactly where you are.

Now, turning off the driving directions to the destination is another issue. When that is done, it quits calculating a course, but the car "bug" is always maintained at the proper map location.

The only time I ever had an issue with NAV accuracy was when I set a destination in the garage with the car running. Since the GPS had no signal in the garage the initial "trip calculation" was screwed up and it never really corrected itself the entire trip. Solution: Always set a destination OUTSIDE, while the GPS is receiving an active signal. :)

Hmmm... had not stopped to think that even though I had hit the XM Radio button it might have still been navigating in the background. Now, let me try to clarify: The first time I think I may have been navigating home (not that I was lost) ( don't remember for sure) when I stopped for gas. The second time I was navigating to a restaurant when I stopped for gas. Started the car after filling up and not only was the restaurant lost but all other destinations that had been previously entered. Third time definitely was not navigating to any particular destination and the system did not lose data.

Now for Musher's question. I purchased this one. I actually tried to lease one from another dealer but got bait and switched. I was given a price over the phone and when I got there I took the car for a test drive and said "let's do it" only to have the manager say they didn't make enough money on the advertised lease and refuse to do the deal already agreed on by the salesman. For those in the south Florida area I would advise to avoid Rick Case like the plague. Not sure why they even have sales people any more. Sales people can't make the deal. Only the money guy or the manager can actually make a deal. The sales person is little more than a guard to make sure you don't steal the car when you go for a test drive.

I bought the car at Coconut Creek Hyundai. They wouldn't do the lease deal either but at least they didn't tell me they would and then change their mind.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

I think we have 4 people who have lost saved addresses one time.

Has it happened to anyone more than once?

Re: Navigation System - lost data

It only happened once so far. I've had the car 1 month and it has 3,000 miles. I love this car!

Re: Navigation System - lost data

So far, we have 5. Richard is the only one with repeat failures. 4 of the cars are in FL [SE Region, similar VINS]. Still waiting to see where Vladroy is.

My next test is to add 10 new locations to the address book, start navigating to one, then stop for gas enroute.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

Hi there, sorry for the delay. I'm in LA, California. No rain, no storms so far, but I washed my car day before with new high pressure washer, hm-m.. Interesting... I've had home, work and 4 addresses stored in address book before Nav lost them. I haven't been "navigating" before this happened.

Re: Navigation System - lost data

It happened again 2 days ago. There were 2 things I did different:

1.- I spent several minutes searching the navigation system for a POI by name. During this search I used the "Back" button several times to bring me to the previous screen.

2.- My low fuel warning light came on, and I kept driving. The DTE (Distance To Empty) display went to below 30 miles and was showing --.

I parked the car, and when I returned after 45 minutes, started the car and the data was gone. This is the second time in 3,300 miles. Other than that, I can still say it is the most amazing car I have owned!

Re: Navigation System - lost data

OK, now we have 2 of 5 with repeat failures. Good news may be on the way. I just returned from the dealer, where they performed the phantom Campaign 56 recall maintenace. [ECU Upgrade] While chatting up the service advisor he said there is a new disk enroute to the dealers to perform a NAV System Upgrade. He said it had nothing to do with the maps, just the operating software. We may never no the exact cause, but it appears a fix may be on the way. :)

Re: Navigation System - lost data

Aaarrgh! It happened to me now. All of my NAV addresses suddenly disappeared. It did not happen, to my knowledge, in conjunction with a fuel fill-up. The car sat in 3 days of steady rain, being driven 5 miles in the morning and 5 miles in the evening each day while I was out of town at some training. I'm not sure exactly when the addresses disappeared, but I noticed it when heading back home at the end of that week.

It's kind of a pain to enter all those back in. This is the first time it has happened to me in 7 weeks of ownership and about 2800 miles.

Computer Info

I have noticed that my car's info such as average speed, hours that the car has been on, etc resets itself every time I turn on the car. The manual states that these items will only reset manually when I hold in the reset button for more than one second. I have not reset ant of the displays manually. Has anyone else had this problem or is there a setting that has the displays resetting themselves automatically?

Re: Computer Info

Sounds like a fault. I have to press Reset on mine, per the manual.
