  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a GV80, and I love it; it makes me smile even to think about it when I'm not driving it. So why am I bothered so much by the "Drive Mode" knob? It's in such a prominent place, yet feels like an afterthought (for just the US market?). It's the cheapest plastic design they could have installed. It looks benign until you use it, then you realize how inappropriate it is. Well, that's my knob rant. Does anyone know if there is one available made with quality materials (metal/glass/etc)?

FWIW, it doesn't bother me one iota!
What does raise my curiosity, though, is why the shifter is a large knob, the "Drive Mode" knob, as you called it, is small knob out of the way, and the infotainment wheel is just that--however, the '23s have a knob now. All three should match.

No, they should not match. Too easy to grab the wrong knob while eyes on the road. Differentiation of some sort it good.

You know, I've never noticed. Maybe cuz I don't use it that often. I guess I see where you're coming from. It is a lightweight material. All the other dial type control surfaces have a nice heavier feel. Having said that, it doesn't irk me in the slightest. Yes, if it was the same material as the drive dial (but same smaller size that it is now, so Ed won't grab the wrong one 😜), it could be a bit nicer.

My 2023 GV80 has arrived and I'll be picking it up later this week. I'm so glad we got the GV70's infotainment controller. I wish the GV70's drive mode selector toggle switch also migrated over to the GV80.

Wow. GV70 and GV80 in the garage? Nice!

Thanks. It was getting kinda weird having two GV70s in the same household so we swapped one of them out for a GV80. Picking it up tomorrow! Savile Silver with Ultramarine Blue and Dune interior.

agreed, they should be all different look, size, and feel, so you don't make mistakes.

What could possibly go wrong? You will never be able to go into Reverse or Park while driving; clicking into Eco, Snow, Sport while driving will do no harm! Likewise, changing a radio station, map limits, etc. on the entertainment wheel will do no harm. All have their respective tasks, and none can cause a problem. Besides, they are each in distinctly different locations. The center console looks like an afterthought without simitry!

I agree with this. All those YouTube channels that say they get confused between the gear selector knob and the infotainment knob (in the GV70 and now on the '23 GV80 presumably) make me wonder how they don't mistake the gas pedal for the brake pedal.

Sadly, they confuse the pedals at times. Too often on the news you hear of a (usually older) driver going through a store front.

Stupid is as stupid does! Or is it survival of the fittest. What ever happened to the Darwin Awards we used to see years ago?

Careful… Someday soon you too will begin to become less and less able. I don’t know if your comment is antagonistic or just foolish. If the later, I’ve been there, done that too.

Neither, but a cautioning that someone ought to be taking these 'special' people off the roads.
