  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm absolutely no fan of my local Hyundesis dealer for various reasons but I took it in my car in for service today and it was a surprisingly pleasant experience. Everyone was all smiles when I pulled up to the point where I got the feeling that they had specifically told people to kiss up to anyone who comes with a Genesis.

Also, as opposed to my last experience where I was driving a Hyundai Kona for three weeks while they tried to fix the damn roof rattle, they actually had a Genesis loaner waiting for me, a nifty white 2.0 Sport AWD. I was happy to be able to compare it to my 3.3 Prestige AWD, so here are a couple of thoughts for anyone interested:

+ I don't know if its the bigger wheels and tires or the decreased weight, but the handling is definitely a step up from my 3.3 with the 18 inch wheels, feels lighter in the front and turns in more eagerly for sure. On that note, I know its been pretty mild in NYC, but I don't know if the dealership has considered that it's handing out a loaner car with summer tires in the middle of February. The lawyer in me would advise against that. Frankly, its stupid that Genesis doesn't offer stock all-season tires on the AWD sport in the first place.

+I love my Mallorca Blue and I'm usually fundamentally opposed to cars that are white, black, grey or silver, but the white paint against the dark sport wheels and copper-ish accents is really sharp.

- Definitely can feel those missing ponies when comparing the 2.0 to the 3.3. It's actually plenty spry around town when its in the meaty part of the torque, but there's very perceptible turbo lag and the transmission seems to get caught out of sorts now and then, almost like its not perfectly matched to the engine. Also missing that nice V6 sound.

I also didn't realize until today that even the 2.0 sport doesn't come with the Brembo brakes. I noticed a difference in braking and wasn't sure why until I got out and saw the standard brakes. Hm.

Anyway, they finished with my car in a few hours and even replaced my windshield wipers under warranty, since the stupid things had been streaking since day 1. Will go pick it up tomorrow. White Genesis, we hardly knew ye, but I was glad to experience a different version of my car.

2.0 is definitely lighter than the 3.3tt, that's the biggest difference between the two in terms of steering feel.

However, all 3.3tt have VGR steering (variable gear ratio) I don't particularly know how that effects the steering feel in regular driving or hard steering. Maybe that made the 2.0 feel more mechanical and engaging at least in regular driving.

nice to hear a positive loaner car experience. i had a G80 3.8 as a loaner last year for my first service. felt like an old man's car but it was nice enough to barge around town in.

like mentioned above, the sharper turn in and lighter feel is due to the dynamic handling advantage of the lighter 4-cyl engine. it's even better in RWD trim. but i'd be more than happy to sacrifice the uptick in handling/feel if the 3.3T RWD came with 6MT.

Speaking of the 6mt, it's really too bad that Genesis didn't beef up the manual tranny from the Genesis Coupe 3.8 back in the day. That thing had 348 HP, though not as much torque as the 3.3tt (295 vs 376), which I'm sure is the primary reason why it wouldn't hold up, but still, it's essentially the same engine block.

Would have been super cool to have a 6spd manual for the RWD 3.3 G70.

The stock wipers are useless.

I swapped them for some sort of "Winter" rated ones and no longer have the 'greasy hamburger hands streak' effect anymore.

I replaced the driver side wiper after 6 months ownership and then calculated the car was in weather at the factory lot and then port in Korea and port in Georgia and then transporter and on dealer asphalt for at least four months so it had weathered prior to delivery to me.

@sethsquire My take on the 2.0 loaner (own the 3.3t sport) is identical to yours. With a bit more power, and smoother transmission shifts/bobbles at high rpm I could probably swap to a 2.0t sport and be happy. Although I've had my loaner for 6 weeks straight and definitely miss the 3.3.

6 weeks?? What's wrong with your car?

Soft brake pedal / inconsistent pedal pressure & braking. Worthy of it's own thread, which I will do at some point. The car has been going through a lottery of changing out parts with no success so far.

Dang... I'm looking forward to your writeup of everything when all is said and done!

Is it the brembo's? I get some vibration when braking at speed sometimes but not to the point where I want to have to take it to the dealership, and braking still seems effective.

A writeup will follow when all is said and done for sure. It's not the common vibration issue (although I have that too).
