  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2009 Genesis w/ Tech Package and V8. I find it a little inconvenient to press the lock button on the outside of the door when walking away. So I am wondering if the vehicle can be configure to automatically unlock the drivers door when the fob comes into range, and then automatically lock the vehicle when I walk away and the fob goes out of range.

Yes. But it may cost thousands if you can find the right custom shop to do it.

I've had the same thoughts. It would be a welcome function for sure, and would certainly add to the car's wow-factor. Here's hopong for an affirmative response from someone...

The car DOES recognize when I walk up to it... not sure of all trim levels, but as I approach my car, the "puddle light" under the mirror illuminates -just by being near. Seems like it would be a simple software enhancement to link the proximity logic to the door lock control.

Not hardly: http://www.directed.com/Company/Press/2012/20121119.aspx

You may need additional parts like a DB-ALL interface and programming, but all said and done, you should be in this well south of $500 installed.

Per the post op wants to use "the fob" that came with the car which means changing the software and possibly some hardware that is associated with the software plus an option put into the DIS menu screen to turn the feature on and off and to maybe set distance that it activates. This will cost way more than 500.00.

Ohhhh.... "THE" fob vs. "A" fob... I get it. ;)

I honestly don't mind pressing a button to unlock the car. Remember when one had to actually insert a key into the lock cylinder and actually turn it, then turn it back and pull the key out before it would lock or unlock?!

Whew, what a PITA that was!

My Equus goes half way; when you approach, you just need to touch the door handle (not press the button) and it unlocks. You do have to press the bujtoon to lock

Guys to each his own.

My bmw all you had to do was touch the handles... whever they got wet like in a car wash theyd go nutz.

Ppp

I even remember when you had to get up to change the channel on the TV. Fortunately, there were only five channels where I lived.
