  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have searched for this but have not seen anything that answers my questions. I dont know about anyone else's car, but the horn that sounds for the alarm seems awful non eventful. I dont even think it's as loud as the regular horn on the car when you push the steering wheel. Has anyone added a siren to the circuit? And if so, what connections are required.

Only the high pitch horn sounds with the alarm. The car has 2 horns a low and a high, Normal horn = both. Alarm - only one, the high pitch.

This is the third car I have owned (all different brands) that has this setup, while I have never looked it up I suspect it has something to do with sound/noise laws and car alarms. I know my city has a car alarm nuisance law that is a $500 fine if your car alarm goes off more than 3 times in a given time frame and someone complains about it.

I suspect you can easily add 2 more horns, tie a low into the existing high and a high into the existing low, that would give you a louder alarm and a much louder horn. And not as annoying as a siren.

Thanks, well that explains it. Wonder what lead feeds the horn for the alarm - or it's prob in the ECM with my luck

The horns are ground activated, you can connect additional horns by proving power to them and connecting them to the grounds at the existing horns.

Maybe they know that no one pays attention to them anyway.

Timely thread. I tripped the panic button putting the fob in my pocket this week and thought the horn sounded awfully anemic and not in keeping with the size of the car.

Rather than adding two additional horns, do think it might be possible to drill down in the engineering service menu someplace and override this setting? Perhaps this is just a setting for USDM cars?

Over the years I've hear probably 100 car horns go off. Not once did anyone ever call the police or did it make any difference. My guess is the louder horn would just piss off the neighbors that woke up or can't hear the TV. Not once did I see a police response.

It may scare off and deter the thief if there was one, but louder may not make any difference from what I've seen. Perhaps other had better experience.

I would agree that people have heard so many false alarms that they now mostly tune it out. But where I sometimes find it handy is in parking garages and lots where I don’t quite recall exactly where I parked. Louder is easier if you want to use a quick panic flash on the remote to point you in the right direction.

Agreed that the only real use for the alarm is in aiding in locating your car in a parking lot/garage.
