Hello everyone I'm a new member here! very excited to be apart of these forums.

A bit about myself, I just graduated dpt program and currently a physical therapist in chicago. I've been driving a 2006 hyundai sonata V6 for the past 10 years and it is time to upgrade..

upon researching the Hyundai Genesis seems like the perfect car to upgrade to, fits my style of masculine, and classy yet modern and sporty, it's perfect.

However with the releasing of the new Genesis line and the G80 I'm at a crossroads.

My question is what would be the better route to go purchasing a 2017 Genesis G80, or saving myself a possible 8-12k and purchasing a 2016 Genesis and just rebadging it?

Essentially they are the same car if i'm not mistaken

Opinions and experience would be great

Welcome another Chicagolander! :)

Save the $$ and grab one of those "leftovers" '15 or '16 for a lot less while you still can.

I'd save the money - you'd be nuts to spend $8-12K more for what is really the exact same car (except a few badges). The G80 freebies will not add up to anywhere close to $8-12K!

Thank you for the response guys, I was thinking of going that direction it is obviously the most logical. But wasn't sure if I was going to be missing out on anything in the G80

Definitely will get the 16, I was thinking maybe a 15 but from what I've researched most of them don't come standard with day time running lights, unless I'm mistaken.

Cheers! I actually just moved up here about a month ago from Central IL, definitely different for me around here but I'm enjoying everything!

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I think I'd do the same as the others have mentioned. I have a 2015 and really love the car. If you can get a 2015, you'd get it at an amazing price right now. Pretty much the same for a 2016. The thing is - if you buy a 2017 right now - I wonder - you might feel a little upset if the 2018 or 2019 gets the anticipated midcycle changes that should be coming to the Genesis Sedan. It might happen too quickly for a "brand new" car...

I'm in SW suburbs, about 35 miles south, but I like to go to the City sometimes for big events such as Auto Show in McCormick or/and Chicago Air and Water show, it's this weekend! I'll be there!

Better advice is to ignore that thread, don't worry about the G80 and save yourself big $ with a Genesis - just make sure it's a 2016 so you get the much cooler LED DRL's ;)

I am going to disagree with myself and agree with all of this. My only regrets on getting my 2015 are 1) I didn't get the V8 and 2) I didn't wait a few months for the 2016 so I could get the LED DRL lights. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Get a great deal on a 2015 or 2016, then in a few months (when they are available) get the G80 badge, rear wing, and rebadge your Genesis.

You still have wings - Huddleston is the only one who went all the way and truly de-badged completely :) Nice picture, BTW - great angle!

Thanks! yeah, it came out pretty good, eh? ;)

Huddleston's car looks good, I like what he did, but I prefer not to touch original paint/clear coat as long as possible. Respraying a new car isn't my thing.

I hear you!

Yes i really wanted to attend that actually, unfortunately have an important wedding to tend to back south, oh well always next year! I forget I can get to city so easily, i need to take advantage of the cool events going on more often.

btw, the debadge actuall looks pretty sick... will keep that in mind :)

Yes that is the only reason I'm going with the 16 lol

I think they refer to Huddleston's look as "The Brazilian". :D

I ended up getting a G80 base in sf bay area. I looked around but could not find many 2016's available in 3.8 and the few available were not being discounted a lot. There were a few 2015 5.0 being discount 10k, so around 40-42k. I did not want a 5.0 and needed a car for sure so got the 2017 G80 base as the safety features were the most important criteria for me. The 2017 base had everything I needed (lane keep, emergency braking, cross traffic, blind spot etc.) In the 2017, premium (sunroof fog light upgraded audio) and ultimate (has the rotary and few other bells and whistles know but no android or apple play) did not make sense to what I needed. The discount on 2017 3.8 base was only around 2.5k vs maybe around 6.5 on a 2016 3.8 ultimate, I think I might have spent 4k more by going 2017 but I would not have saved that, I would just have got more car and features for my money but the money I spend was going to be the same. I would have to go to a higher trim in 2016 to get my safety features which I get standard in 2017. Long story if upgraded audio and sunroof are a must then discounted 2016s are good and if safety features are all what you need then the 2017 is still good for the money and discount. If you need 5.0 then nothing better than the 2015s they are already two model years old with the 2017 coming in and some dealers are doing 25% off msrp.

Interesting thanks for the info, i dont think the 17's are even available near my area yet, but i'll keep eyes out. Basically I don't need a whole lot, whatever saves me the money I suppose is my best option.
