  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I don't know about you but I have gotten very spoiled by the push button start feature on my cars in years past. No more keys to look around for. I get into my house with the garage door opener in the car or the push button lock we have on the door. Only keys I have are in the center console which stay there and consist of my office key and my mail box key. I am even more spoiled with the credit card key for the Genesis that remains in my wallet at all times. Good thing is I can't leave the house without my wallet if I am going to take the car, love it.

We have been talking about getting my wife a new car in late winter and we were reading up about the new compact Jeep Renegade which is very promising. My wife said to me. "I don't care if it is the best car in the world, if it does not have push button start, I won't even consider it". Hmmm, no push button start on the Jeep. Obviously I am not the only one who considers this a must have feature. Personally I could never go back to key myself either.

Why in the world would todays manufacturers not elect to use push button start in all cars? It is surely a much cheaper route not to mention practical and very nice compared to keys.

I like it too, but not sure it's cheaper than the old mechanical key start - the new key itself is quite expensive to replace!

Also, I did find out the hard way to keep a house key handy as well when the power went out and I could not get into the garage!

The combination of the push start and the ultra quiet engine have made me turn the car off when I wanted to turn it on and it was already on several times ;)

Is there a way to start the Genesis is the battery in the key fob dies?

There is a button on your key fob. If you press it you can pull out the laser cut key. I don't recall the location that you plug it into but that is how you start it if the battery dies.

Most smart key systems have a special location where you can place a smart key with a depleted battery and it will still start the vehicle. I haven't read the manual to know where this is on the G2.

Okay, curiosity got the better of me. I went out and dug through the manual. If the fob is dead, you can press the start/stop button with the end of the fob opposite the mechanical key and it should start. No idea if it works due to close proximity or if there is some sort of rfid or other passive recognition system.
