  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There is a Micro Switch under the hood and I have no idea what it is for.
When looking at the engine from the front of the car, on the right side (driver side) about three inches to the right of the fuse box, in a recessed area, there is a push switch. On the hood, there is a black rubber that pushes down on this switch when the hood closes.

At first I thought it was for an underhood lamp, but my car does not have an underhood lamp. Then I lifted the hood and started the car, figuring that somekind of warning lamp would light in the dash, but nothing.

Any Ideas?

That sounds reasonable. (I'm not going to try it though) :D

I can't say what exactly is the function of the micro switch, but I can relay some problems it can cause. I have a 2012 Genesis and after a recent repair the Brake Holder function started malfunctioning (it set the Emergency Brake when the car came to a stop). It took the dealer tech more than 2 hours to determine the problem was that the micro switch had been bumped during the recent repair. When I replied there had been no light or message indicating the hood was open he replied the only visible indicator would be the lights wouldn't flash when locking the car with the remote! So the switch indicating the hood may be open can cause the Brake Holder to malfunction and the lights not to flash when locked, but it doesn't tell you about the presumed open status of the hood.

I also think there is no beep sound when you lock if any door, trunk, or hood is open.

I can also confirm if the rubber stop doesn't engage the micro switch (or is missing as in my case), it causes 0.2 MV parasite drain via the IPM 10A fuse in the engine compartment fuse box, passenger side!

This kind of car should have a warning light when the hood is open, it has indicating lights for when the doors and the trunk is open, why not for the hood. i spent $500 just trying to figure out why my battery kept dying out, a parasite drain coming from the hood, because the rubber that touches the sensor was torn off, had there been a display to indicate that my hood was open, i could have saved $500 and only spent $14. That's all that rubber piece cost was $14.00. So yes, when that rubber piece got put back on, my battery stopped dying out, and my car lights finally flashed again when I used the key remote to lock the car doors. My car is a 2009 Genesis Hyundai and I think this car company needs to reimburse me for not having such necessary feature on their car model.

What is that piece called?
