If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Puzzled by constant warning tone while driving in snowstorm: what did it mean?

Hi. I own a 2016 Hyundai Genesis AWD and am very happy with it. Last night my wife and I did a long drive during a driving snow storm. I stayed in Snow mode and have snow tires. The car performed beautifully. Except, midway through the drive there was a constant warning tone and the dashboard display showed an image of the car wth a reddish indicator showing in the front. I have re-read the manual and am not certain what it means. THere was a lot of ice on the front which i removed but the tone continued. All safety systems as well as SCC were working normally. Eventually the tone went away.

Any thoughts on what this means?

Thanks

Larry

It's falsely indicating a car is very close in front of you. I find the front sensors troublesome in snow and anything reflective like road signs. I base this on my car and my wife's Mercedes. Not a huge issue and intermittent, but simply a consequence of the current technology.

What packages do you have...Ultimate, Tech. ?? Snow and salt build up on the front end and sensors could not read the traffic ahead...clean snow off radar sensor should solve the warning sound
Camera lens also must be cleaned in snow season

Most likely the parking sensors. Once they get snow over them they give false readings. Just disable them with the dashboard switch under these conditions.

The first and only time I have seen our car with the red warning sign was when a car made a sudden stop in front of me. The alarms went off as the breaks came on. It saved my bacon. I suspect that your sensors were covered with snow or ice and the system saw that? I do the best I can to keep the sensors as clean as possible. I remember a work day in Iowa in the 70's when my grill got covered with ice and I had to take a hammer to clear the ice as the car was overheating. If that happened today I would use something a bit softer! Love my 2016 AWD Genesis:o

Reddish Band in front of the car graphic also appears when the parking sensors sense you are too close to something, or when the sensors get blocked by snow/ice. On my 2012 that had the Automatic Braking Assist, which uses the sensor for the "radar" cruise control, the system could actually tell that the sensor was blocked and warned that these functions were unavailable.

You're confusing the parking sensors with the AEB radar.

The OP experienced parking sensors which were covered with ice/slush and therefore the red bar would show up on the front of the vehicle image on the dash. This image is coupled with the beep warning that you are very close to an object in front of you.

This can be easily mitigated by just turning off the parking sensor while driving.

The other issue you might face is the front AEB radar getting covered with snow/ice/slush.

This will cause a yellow exclamation point to show up on the dash and your AEB will be disabled until you clear away the obstruction. You will know the AEB system is off because there will be an amber light that looks like two cars crashing into each other lit on your dash.

These are two possible issues you could see when the front facing sensors or radar are obstructed.

Not confused at all. That is exactly what I said was happening.
