  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G80
Are the components/construction used for the Genesis superior to that used on Hyundai's?. The collateral question would be is a Genesis more reliable and longer lived than a Hyundai

My gut feeling is that the components are pretty much the same in quality whether we are talking an Elantra or a G90

The only upgrade in ”quality” of the materials would be In interior touch surfaces, Dash, console, seats etc. higher end cars get better quality interior materials.

Mechanically, electronically, everything is Hyundai on a Genesis, Same parts essentially that you find on other Hyundai models, same part numbers, same manufacturer stamp.

Similar to VW/Audi, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infinity, Dodge/Chrysler/Fiat/Maserati Ford/Lincoln, GM (Chevy/Buick/caddy). Etc.

all the mechanical and electrical parts are the same, most are third party manufactured to the specs of the parent company and shared across all models that use similar parts (things like windows switches and regulators, intake systems, suspension systems, HVAC systems, etc). Essentially everything comes from the same parts bin

obviously different models will have unique parts to that model, but again they are all essentially part ”made by” the parent company.

I will note that Lexus does have a lot of parts that are specific to Lexus and stamped and such, but they also have a lot of parts that are stamped Toyota. Most of the other manufacturers do not make that distinction, I can tell you I have done work on a 2017 Lamborghini and all the parts were marked Audi..

My 2018 Genesis, so far every part I have seen is stamped Hyundai, not sure if that is changing for the newer 2020-2021 models or not, but I doubt it. Even many Kia parts are marked Hyundai.

In addition, the Genesis has parts not on the other models. Sound proofing panels and materials, additional body parts for rigidness type of thing. You don't see them but they do make a difference in the driving experience. Lug nuts may have more polishing or plating but otherwise, same material but you only get four on the Accent.

Yes and no. The components used in the Genesis are better quality overall than what you will find in a Hyundai. However, some unseen components may be the same such as some suspension parts and some engine/drive-train components.

The same with Toyota vs. Lexus, Honda/Acura, and VW/Audi. There may be some parts sharing among the brand models, but the top tier models get the better components overall.

Hyundai V8 and V6 engines are pretty reliable, however any engine issues that will occur in a Hyundai model with the same engine as a Genesis will probably happen in a Genesis model as well since the engine parts will be the same.

To my knowledge the only engine that both Hyundai and Genesis use is the 2.0T.

Not just part sharing between Hyundai and Genesis but between competitor brands too. Many components are designed and built by OEMs like AC Delco and Takata, etc... Why R&D your own sensors when you can buy for instance a complete smart cruise control system and just tune it for the specific car?
