However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey guys,

So my back up camera decided to give up on my 2010 Genesis. It is white washed and when it does decide to work a little it’s just a very white washed image. I’m not sure if any one else has had this problem and how they fixed it

I did some searching on the thread and some people said it might be the connection is loose or eroded and to use some contact cleaner so that was what I did which is the black connector seen in the image but that didn’t work and the camera is still. Question is that the only connection I need to clean or should I just go ahead and clean all of them next time?

The back up plan is to install an after market back up camera which I have but I need to get a longer and thinner piler to get the plastic inserts of the trunk lid trim off to get access to the actual camera and license plate lights to install it. I got reserve light off and all the screws off but couldn’t get the trunk lid trim off due to those two yellow plastic inserts because the pilers I had on hand were too big and far to get to the smallest yellow insert. Any tips and insight will be greatly appreciated.

If anyone else is having problems and would like a more thorough guide of how to get to the camera connection I can do that next time but it’s pretty easy to get trunk lining to get to the back up camera connection

I've read the same threads as you. I'm picking my Genny up on Friday. The factory backup cam doesn't work on it either, it's just a black screen. Previous owner installed an aftermarket cam instead but I'm determined to figure out fixing the factory camera connection. I will post back (give me some time) with what I figure out, even if I don't figure it out.

So I managed to get the trunk lid trim off today with a longer piler and pure muscle (broke one of the plastic holders) The camera assembly is attached to the trunk lid trim so if you ever want to replace it you would have to take the trunk lid trim off. You can see all the little connectors that made it hard to get off.

Since the OEM camera still wasn’t working after some contact cleaner I went ahead and installed an after market backup camera. Went a really lazy route and had the wire run from the front to the back through the rear passenger arm rest pass through. Of course I ran into a problem with how to get the light bulb inside the new license plate light assembly. At one point I just wanted to cut it but for now I just have the license plate light dangling into the trunk through the hole that the reverse light is suppose to go in lol just in case I need to revert it back to normal. I wired the camera through the key hole. Still need to figure out which wire is for the reverse light. But that’s for another day. If anyone knows which wire it is then that would be helpful.

So it has come to my attention that my car inspection expires at the end of October. Having replaced one of the license plate light with a rear camera makes only makes it so 1 license plate light works in the back. I’m curious if I will fail inspection because I only have 1 light

Here is an image of the replacement license plate cover used to mount the camera

So as you can see the area for a replacement bulb won’t fit the festoon bulb.

I looked at the inspection regulation and it says at least 1 light so I’m not too sure just want a second opinion

If it is the case that I need both lights then I’ll have to find another mounting point for the camera probably the license plate as I don’t want to drill any hole on the car

So Xtalgic posted a video on replacing the rear view camera. If anyone is interested here is the link

Ya, I saw it and after watching it... Ummmm, no thanks lol. I'll stick with the aftermarket one I have and disable the OEM camera through the DIS engineering menu.

I did all that just to get the damn trunk trim off for my project haha

So I ordered a replacement used back up camera from eBay for around 50 and plugged it into the harness to test if it fixes the problem. And luck will have it that the replacement camera is doing the same thing. This leads me to believe that it’s a problem with the screen because I do notice that the white is washed out so that might be what is causing the back up camera to be all washed out. Really don’t want to mess with dismantling the dash and replacing the screen at this point so I’m just gonna leave it be and take the L unless there is some way to reset the screen

You can see the globe and satellite being all washed out so I think the same thing is happening with the camera.

Changing brightness works but doesn’t fix the white washed image

I would say they have rearview mirrors with built in led screen that will pop up with reverse screen as well but idk if thats something you'd want to mess with haha
