  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Question about Pricing/Availability

I currently own a 2012 R-Spec which I will be keeping, but my family needs another new car ASAP and I've been watching the 2015 Genesis info unfold over the past couple of months. I had a couple questions...

1) When do we expect to see decent availability at most dealerships? I keep seeing available in April, but with just a couple weeks left in April it feels like it could be months before we see regular availability.

2) I qualify for Plan A pricing, is that typically honored right away by most dealerships? I bought the R-Spec the month they came out and it was honored, but that was a mid-cycle addition not a completely new body. The pricing on the new Genny is a little higher than I expected and without Plan A pricing would really stretch past even my top end budget.

3) I really need to make my purchase by end of May. If it doesn't look like availability will be there for a few months past that what other cars would be worth seriously considering? My needs are below...

-Under $50k out the door with good options
-RWD or AWD
-300HP+ (Decently Sporty)
-Mid or Full Size Sedan
-Luxury or Luxury-lite (Good ride and build quality)
-Up to Date Tech (I'm a nerd I like up to date tech features)

Thoughts?

Thanks for the help!!

If the 2015 Hyundai Genesis isn't available in time, I think your next best bet might be the Buick Lacrosse. That's another large midsize vehicle that's luxurious, classy, powerful and $40k fully loaded with all wheel drive. It's quite an impressive car.

Was at my local dealer a little while ago. Sales guy there said they might get one or two in before the end of the month, but that was far from certain. He said it would be summer before they start getting them in in significant numbers.

He claims the car is selling very well in Korea - 15,000 already. that seems like a (literally) unbelievable number; I wonder if he knows that for a fact or if it's just some rumor he heard.

Anyway, I'm number 6 on his call-back list.

^ There were 12k in pre-orders back in Jan. - so 15k seems to be feasible.

As to availability, will depend on region and dealerships w/ West Coast dealerships likely getting it earlier and the high volume dealerships getting the 1st alottments.

I'd put more stock into those numbers than you might think. Have family over in South Korea and apparently they're going nuts over this car. He said one dealership his friend works at just has a numbered list, they get a car in, they call the list, first person to say yes I'll bring you the full check for the car today gets it.

One of the auto shows, one of the larger dealer owners who'd gone over there to test drive the car said that the markedly high demand in SK meant that it'd be a while before he saw one in the States. He said he wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't June before he saw one, but he was hoping sooner.

You should be able to get a 2014 Genesis for about $10K off list. That would be about $35K +TTL for a loaded V6. You might be able to finds a brand new 2013 for even less. If you are willing to go to $50K, then go to Hyundai dealer with your checkbook in hand and negotiate on a Equus. I am not sure you can get to $50K if taxes are included, but pretty close. A loaded 2015 Genesis V6 is not likely to be any less expensive than that until later this summer.

As far as availability, I have always been told May by my dealer.

You will see 2014 R-Specs at that price. Under $40K now, I would think could be at $35K when the 2015's start showing up.

I got my 2013 back in November for just under $31k OTD ($44,425 was sticker) with Tech+Premium, so by now a 2013 if you can still find them will be under $30k for sure.

I'll agree the pricing on the 2013/2014 Genesis is very tempting. For some reason I'm just hesitant to have 2 of the exact same car. I'm not sure why, but that idea really bothers me ;)

So to clarify in my messed up head...

2012 R-Spec + 2014 R-Spec (Weird)
2012 R-Spec + 2015 V8 (Ok!)

I can understand that. That's why I suggested you give the Equus a look. You will have to be a good negotiator to get it done at $50K, but I think it is possible.
