  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My phone is paired with the car and it works really well for me when I am driving. However, I have had several people tell me that they cannot hear the passenger when they are talking. Yesterday, my wife was driving and we were talking to my dad. He kept saying that he couldn't hear me. I finally leaned over toward my wife (the driver) and then he said that I was coming through fine. Is there a separate microphone for the passenger? If so, then mine is not working. I can't find information on the microphones in the Owners manual. if there is just one microphone, are any of you all having difficulties with it picking up the passenger talking?

I doubt there are two microphones - you should be able to see it, likely above driver side near visor, pillar or possibly in overhead center area where interior lights and sunglass holder is.

It was visible on the 2011, near the driver's visor. I'll bet it is at the same place, but hidden. On the 2011, it helped if the passenger leaned in.

Yup, that's where it is, i believe you can see a little grill, i remember finding it ages ago.

And nope, no passenger side mic, not sure i've heard of any car with two mics (except after market install).

Not only is there no passenger microphone, but the noise cancellation is tuned to remove sounds coming from other locations than the driver.

Here is the location of the microphone. The picture actually shows (2) microphones. Not sure if there is actually one located under the right hand side panel or not or whether it is just designed that way for symmetry. One could test this by taping off the left side and trying the phone to see if it works. Maybe someone could try this today & report back...

Here is a picture of in from my car.

We have no issues in my car (5.0 Ultimate) with the microphone. My wife uses the phone all the time from the passenger seat with no issues.

Thanks for the help. It makes sense to have one microphone but it is strange that people are not hearing the passenger.

Noise cancellation requires two microphones. It subtracts the noise from the one which is located further from the desired source. It entirely makes sense that the passenger is being noise cancelled. So, maybe its the opposite. If you can hear the passenger, then your second mic isn't working! And you dont have noise cancellation at all.
