Question for those who've either installed subs or rewired in the trunk in your G2

I've been in the process of removing the interior liners in the trunk to access either wiring or the trunk hinge mechanism. I've removed the trunk lid liner to access the backup camera—this process was pretty straight forward—removing a few screws, a half-dozen retainer clips, etc. and the trunk lid liner came right out.
The side and upper panels liner panels have me a little perplexed.
There are retainer clips that need to be removed along the edge, and this seems pretty normal...


The net anchors look as though they can be removed by possibly unscrewing a screw that hold them in place—although I'm guessing here..


What has me puzzled on the upper liner are these. Rivets? Do these pop out or do they need to be drilled & replaced?

How these panels are attached closer to the back seat is still a mystery to me.
Any other suggestions/solutions for removing the side and top trunk panels from your experience would be greatly appreciated.

The upper trunk trim can be pulled off with pressure. You will need to remove the trunk weather stripping to access a couple of metal support clips. The rivets are for the plastic supports that hold the white panel clips that hold the upper trim in place. The net anchors do not need to be removed, however they are only held by one nut and bolt set.

In addition to the support you asked about; you will need to remove the trunk floor cover to access a couple of Philip head screws and two 10mm nuts on each side panel trim to remove them. You also need to remove the lower trunk trim that covers the trunk striker plate which is help by two 10mm nuts and two push clips.

Fairly easy job.

Thanks for your reply. I was able to remove the top panel fairly easily and then the right panel (partially). My intent was to gain access to the lid strut/string assembly. My plan was to add a spring to provide greater tension in order for the trunk lid to fully open when released.
I’m still a bit puzzled as the assembly is far different from this image you had posted a while ago (Sonata?)...

Here is the mechanism (spring removed) on the 2015 G2. You can see a gas strut extending from the back wall (left). A large 2” diameter spring attaches to the bolt opposite the strut and is anchored to the car frame (far right out of shot). Increasing the tension on the spring should get the desired results l’m after, but we’ll see....

I used the helper spring on my old 2014 KIA Optima SXL that used a simple tension bar setup.

For the Genesis, I would try hooking an helper spring to the holes in the trunk lid hinge arm and on a place on the body similar to where the stock spring is mounted and see if helps lifts the trunk higher.
