So I am dealing with some issues debating on if I should go with the genesis or not. some of these issues range from reducing my current payment of $670 a month plus my current car gets 25mpg and requires premium gas which is 30% more than regular where I live.

So I am debating two cars. The Genesis and the Sonata. I have been looking for Genesis with the Unlimited options but I am just not finding them. So One of my main questions is which would you rather have.

I am planning on leasing 36 months 15k miles a year
(90% of my driving is highway)
2016 Limited Sonata Payment $232 a month 33 MPG
MSRP $33,500 Sale price $26,500
2016 Genesis 3.8 tech package RWD payment $362 25 MPG
MSRP $47,100 Sale price $41,500

Anyway my main point is me wondering if the genesis is worth the extra money.

The real question is not whether the Genesis is worth the extra money. The question is whether your budget can afford it. Only you can answer that question.

Most of my driving is highway as well, and I have never seen 25 mpg even on my best trip. I am currently at about 19 mpg (regular), with about 70% highway driving on a 3.8L V6 RWD. Don't expect to see 25 mph with this vehicle.

Otherwise, it's a much better car than the Sonata, at least the rental Sonata's I get on a regular basis ...

Afford is not my biggest question though. I can afford to go get a Audi S6 but I want the biggest bang for my buck. I currently have a Audi S4 which I love but I am trying to cut some cost.

Current Car
Audi S4 $670 payment + $200 gas +$100 insurance +$100 tires a month
Total $1070 a month
Genesis tech $362 payment + $180 gas +$100 insurance +$50 tires a month
Total $692 a month
Sonata Limited $232payment + $100 gas +$75 insurance +$50 tires a month
Total $457 a month

My wife's 2012 Sonata limited went 65k on original tires. Total replacement cost for all 4 was under $600. Normal mixed MPG for that car (60% hwy) is about 28 MPG

The Genesis is NICE but is it $130/mo payment nicer? I think so but ultimately your call. Maybe check out the Hyundai Azera/Kia Cadenza for a good in between point? I find those two cars much closer to the Genesis in terms of interior quality, plus they have 293 HP vs the 311 in the Genesis.

I'd argue the new Cadenza is very nearly on par with the Genesis interior quality

I had a 2011 Sonata and got 33mpg 90% highway use. Thats why I listed it as that. I also got a little over 40k out of the tires but I just did a simple calculation. Audi tires are $1,200 and need to be replaced every 20k miles which comes to $100 a month where the other cars I just assumed 40k miles and $1,200 for tires even though I know they will be a little less so it comes to about $50 a month.

The Cadenza looks interesting going to take a look. Overall I liked the genesis I drove. My issue is any car I go with I will not liked as much as my S4.

I don't believe the "new" Kia Cadenza is available to see just yet...

Totally different cars, but since you mentioned that any car you go with won't be as good as the S4 you have now, you just answered your question.

Why go with the Genesis (or any other high dollar luxury car), when it can't compare to your S4. You can get the Sonata for much less and satisfy your mpg. Also, the Sonata is so much cheaper to maintain, vs the Genesis. However, from an S4 to a Sonata is a downgrade, so if you can handle that, more power to you (no offense to anyone).

I also have a '15 3.8 rwd. On each of my road trips, I have gotten at least 28 mpg, occasionally a little more. I drive 75 on the interstate, inflate my tires to 35psi cold, and use only Mobil1 oil. In town with no highway miles, I get a consistent 21+. I also use only a top tier regular gasoline; tried premium on three different occasions (several tanks full each) and got no discernible difference.

Different drivers with different cars will get different mileage.

I have rented Sonatas on several road trips and got 32+ on each trip.

I drive 90 miles a day to work and of those 75 miles is 65 mph highway. My Audi is rated for 18/28 and I average 26-27 going back and forth to work. So I would assume the genesis would be around most weeks 25 mpg.

To go along with this...I have a '15 3.8 AWD and I get about 26 MPG on interstate driving going 80 on average. The RWD will obviously get better MPG than my AWD so OP should have no problems getting the gas mileage he wants with the Genesis.

I really don't get the logic of anything less than an equivalent to the S4 being pretty much the same. Frankly, it makes no sense. Having owned both the Sonata 2.0T and the Genesis 3.8, the latter is VASTLY superior, and I'd easily choose it between the two even if I were stepping down from Maybach.

I would buy used genesis. Why you wasting money on leasing?

I Have owned a limited Sonata in the past and now have a 2015 5.0 Genesis and I would say it's definitely worth the money to get the Genesis. In addition since you are coming from a great car like an S4 it will be very difficult to sit and drive a Sonata for a long daily commute. View it as you are saving almost $400 a month with a Genesis instead of paying more for a Genesis to a Sonata. Sonata's are good cars and have come a long way but the Genesis is much more refined like your S4.

I will be interested to hear what you decide. I am also considering a switch from a B8 S4 to Genesis. Folks are right, the S4 does everything dynamically better, but it is surely less comfortable. Also, sometimes it's nice to have a smoother ride if you have bad roads nearby. It would be hard to give up the engine in the S4 for the Genesis V6, though... I'm waiting to test drive the V8 when it shows up at dealers. Maybe I will make the smart decision and go with the V6 or keep the S4. But I don't have much incentive to save the $100 a month or whatever the difference will be for a leased V6 vs V8 Genesis.

For a mid-size or large car, I'd choose RWD over FWD for the handling and the decoupling of steering from acceleration. Most FWD cars have too much weight in the front. If you're more worried about snow and ice, FWD might be a better choice.

Welcome aboard! Thank you for signing up. Coming from an S4 I have a feeling you'll end up with a V8 Genesis Sedan. It really is another planet inside - it's actually luxurious. I've had an S4 and it was awesome at what it was supposed to do - but not luxurious at all compared to the Genesis Sedan...

Not sure if you would be able to step down from a maybach lol....if you coming down from a maybach I don't think you can go to anything but another s class or better

Earlier this month I traded in my 2014 Audi S5 for a 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate. Prior to the S5 I had a 2015 Genesis 3.8 Signature. Long story short, I flip cars as a hobby.

In a nutshell, coming from an S4 or S5 is going to be a major apples to oranges comparison. Even with my 5.0 V-8 in the Genesis, it still doesn't feel as quick as the S5. On paper (and likely in reality) the Genesis 5.0 is as quick as the S5, but the overall tuning (suspension, transmission, etc.) makes the Genesis a much more refined or luxurious driving experience. The relative smoothness of the shift and acceleration won't provide the race car feel you've likely become accustomed to in your Audi. I don't consider this a pro or con, it's just not a vehicle meant to compete with a small 3.0 TFSI 2 or 4dr Audi.

In a world where practicality doesn't matter I would have kept the S5 in my 3rd stall for weekends and other spirited driving runs. For my career in outside sales with lots of traffic, as well as long 3-4 hour drives the Genesis is a much more satisfying and enjoyable daily driver.

As for the Sonata, my father drives a Sonata 2.0 Limited. I drive the vehicle when I visit them, and while nice, it just isn't a luxury vehicle. No offense to anyone out there, but it's an economy focused vehicle that has been dressed up with leather and some other "near-luxury" features. Nothing wrong with the vehicle, but to me it feels like I'm picking up a rental rocket at Hertz for a few days, making it about as enjoyable to drive as a Chevy Malibu or Ford Taurus. It does have some surprising kick, but that FWD torque steer is something I feel less than excited about.

My 2 cents.....go for the Genesis, but make sure you aren't going to miss the sports-car type feel you are getting in your Audi S4.
