  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Question, need some help debating on the Genesis

For those who can wait (or opt for a short-term lease), these will be 2 sportier options to the G80.

G70

Kia GT (K800?)

Design/sheetmetal-wise, think I will end up liking the Kia better (which is a size segment up from the G70).

the genesis is nice. but in many ways, the dh is just barely catching up to what lexus did with their ls460 almost 10 years ago, and in many areas.

still a nice car though, Id wait for the 3 year price drop. get a used one.

I'm getting rid of my C450 AMG and planning to trade-in my wife's 2015 Sonata for a 2015 Genesis V8... This thread makes me think about this again… I need balance of a sedan and a sport car...

Considering the mods to your previous car and your statement that you "need" (not want) a balance of sedan and sport car, I would advise that the Genny sedan is not the car that you are looking for. The Genny is a more mature luxury car that performs well in that category. It is not a BMW M or MB AMG. There may be sport sedan offerings in the Genesis brand in the future but they are not here yet.

Agree completely. Though I would assume (perhaps incorrectly) that before people go too far down the road of 'planning' a Genesis purchase, they actually drive one.

Kia GT?? Looks like an Optima. But the pics online look like a stretched out Optima. Looks really cool. But the spy shot posted above doesn't...

I have always had Hyundai, this is my first Benz that i have for 4 month and not quite like it. Before Benz i was looking at Genesis V8 but the price on CPO was around $45k and i passed it. I test drove it 3 times at 3 different dealerships and non of them allowed to do a long test drive, only around the block. Around the block driving - i liked it, but couldn't feel it. When i test drove Benz i really liked it, but a couple of days later, while i was already in the car, i found that it has features that i don't like. Such as jerky transmission, creaky interior, stupid nav system and other annoying stuff.
Looking at the market right now and i can not find anything that i'd love to drive on daily basis. BWM - way to outdated interiors, Lexus - meh, Audi - S6 is way to expensive, Benz - no longer that famous quality. Im straight outta options lol

The only thing that stops me from Genesis is it's weight and handling..

Even on a longer test drive I think you will find that the word "sport" doesn't apply to even the V8. I don't think that's what Hyundai was looking to build, so it's just the wrong car to look at for that purpose.

The Genesis has equally annoying features to the Benz - settings that don't hold (I have to push four buttons every time I start the car), idiotic locking mechanism (push button to open, and can't lock door while car is running), a navigation system that's stupid and at least a generation behind other vehicles, bad front lighting - I have a long list of annoyances that I only figured out after owning the car for a few days/weeks.

The new Audi S4 looks promising for your purpose, but it's not available until next year ...

I took a look at the lease rates on the 2017 5.0 and boy are they more expensive to lease than the 3.8. A similarly priced (> $50k) 3.8 Ultimate looks to be in the $400/month range to lease while the 5.0 is near $700/month to lease. Perhaps there will be a better offer in the future?

I will be interested to hear what you decide. I am also considering a switch from a B8 S4 to Genesis. Folks are right, the S4 does everything dynamically better, but it is surely less comfortable. Also, sometimes it's nice to have a smoother ride if you have bad roads nearby. It would be hard to give up the engine in the S4 for the Genesis V6, though... I'm waiting to test drive the V8 when it shows up at dealers. Maybe I will make the smart decision and go with the V6 or keep the S4. But I don't have much incentive to save the $100 a month or whatever the difference will be for a leased V6 vs V8 Genesis.

I drive the genny 5.0 rather spiritedly. I've done canyon runs, slalom, drag races, and squeezed just about as much as I can from this car. I have NEVER felt the weight and/or handling issue that others are describing.

Granted this is not a "sport" car (never was and never will be), it is "sporty" and VERY quick. It's a sporty luxury sedan that ducks the gas guzzler tax. Is this a car for older more mature people? I guess, but I'm probably the youngest person on this forum with one and it appeals to me. Even without all of my mods added on. To each their own.

I've seen and driven the CLA45...that car needs some work. It's ranking is also pretty low compared to its competition. If you're coming from a CLA45, you will LOVE the genny 5.0. Comfortable, luxurious, fast, and commands attention. Not trying to bash the CLA45, just not my kind of car.

My 2cents.

I think you might want to wait for the Genesis G70. That sounds like the car for you. Sign up HERE and stay tuned...

I took the V8 on at least 3 test drives, two of them quite extended. Felt the weight Every. Single. Time. Now it has the power to cope with the weight, but that power doesn't help you when turning. Or braking. Which is where I definitely felt the extra weight over the nose. It's the main reason this car falls short of sports sedan status (and of course, Hyundai wasn't aiming for a sports sedan, so not really fair to use that as a measuring stick).

In either V6 or V8 form, it's an exceedingly capable luxury sedan. In V8 form it's also a very fast luxury sedan.

I'm coming from a C450 AMG with 450HP and 500TQ... And before that i had 2014 Genesis Coupe 3.8.. I think i'll go for a 2015 Genesis V8 CPO for $35k if somebody will takeover my current Mercedes lease. Hopefully that won't be long..

That's what I'm planing to do. I'd rather wait for G70 with the Genesis than with Mercedes.

P.S. It'd be great to have "Thanks" button…

I debated on waiting for the G70 but who knows when its actually coming out and will have good lease deals on it.

Local dealership called me basically begging me to come in last night being end of the month and all but i was too busy.

I'd love a "thanks" option but I've seen some forums have major problems with it. So I'm a little weary of adding it here. We DO have a "reputation" system if you'd like to use it. See the image at the bottom...

I have a feeling we'll see the Genesis G70 in showrooms late next year...

There are a lot of factors which go into a car being 'sporty'. Genesis does not really fall into a complete 'sports sedan' category, but you may like it depending on what specific features are high on your wish list.

I had a dinan modified 335i and then got a 2013 MB E550. Although, the engine stats and torque for E550 was a lot higher than the 335i, but it was nowhere even close to the 'sportiness' (in my case-handling) of the 335i.
Genesis 5.0 really IS a very heavy car, so you will feel that weight. The one huge change for me(and I was pleasantly surprised) was going from a forced induction engine to a naturally aspirated one- its a different kind of fun!

Another side point is maintenance: its soooo much cheaper to maintain this car. I remember going through a few run-flats for my beemer and each tire was over $400.
