  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

While showering this morning i had a thought, does the push botton entry for the driver and passenger door still work if the key is inside the car? The reason i thought about this is, let's say someone is trying to carjack you and you're in the car, can they open the door if they press the botton on the door handle? If so i would think this is a security hazzard, what are your thoughts?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
While people without the smart key can unlock the door via the proximity button if the key is in the car, I don't believe that it will work if the car is out of park (or maybe even if the ignition is on) for the exact reason you're talking about. I'll have to test that to confirm.

EDIT: Check that. The proximity buttons don't work if the locks are engaged from the inside regardless of the ignition state of the car. I just tested it. That means you can even leave the car running (with someone inside, of course), they can lock the door, and only they can unlock it from the inside.

Interesting, that is good to know. When getting gas with the wife or just running into the store it's nice to know there is a level of security there.

As long has we have this thread open, I'd like to know if anyone has set off the alarm in their gennie? If so, what were the circumstances? I'm not totally certain that I've set the alarm correctly when leaving the car (although I've read the section on setting the alarm).

One of my confusion points is that with the doors locked and the trunk open...I close the trunk (away from the house) and get a long beeeeep (about 2-3) seconds. However if I'm in the garage and perform the same operation I get nothing but the tail light flash. :o Duh?

If the doors are locked and the trunk is open, when you close the trunk, you will get that beeeeep. Don't matter if you are outside or in the garage.
If the doors are NOT locked, and the trunk is open, when you close the trunk, you WILL NOT get that beeeeep. Again, does not matter if you are outside or in the garage.

As for the alarm horn, except for the time I looked for my car in a parking lot, when I pushed the alarm button on the key fob, my horn alarm has never gone off. Just as it should be. THAT BEING SAID--------
If you push the alarm button on the key fob, a horn in the car does go off, however it is the poorest excuse for a horn I've ever heard. Not the same as the regular car horn, and in a parking lot, I could not hear the alarm horn until I was right on top of the car. IMHO, this alarm horn is worthless.

I believe the piezo alarm horm (low powered) is used to not drain the battery as the regular horn would. So many electronics....etc.

Back to the prox key scenario. Be careful!
Say you are going somewhere with the wife. You have a key, she has a key. Yours is in your pocket (you assume) and the wife's in her purse. You take the trip to the mall, you drop her off at the door, car still running, and you head down the street to the local sports store.

Well when you push the button and turn off the car, you realize that YOUR key is not with you at all, but back at home. The car started becasue the wife's et was present. #@%! How you gonna start the car and and head back to the mall? Umm, walk.

Note to all...pay attention to the beeeeeeep, when the person with the key leaves as well as the Info Center stating, "Key Not In Vehicle".
It will save you a 1 mile walk to get the key and mile back all while getting an earful! lol
