If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm currently driving a modded/tuned 2012 G37s Sedan. I'm mainly cross-shopping the Mustang GT Premium (2018+) and Genesis 3.3T (2018+).

I live near a Hyundai and Genesis dealer who seems to be very willing to just let me take cars off the lot and test them. I first came by just trying to see how roomy the 6th gen Mustangs were and the guy offered me a test drive. He basically lets me come by and test all kinds of things. I went by today because I saw they finally have a G70 3.3t sport prestige. I dealed with a different salesman this time because the one I usually deal with was busy. This new one just handed me the keys and let me take it off the lot for a test drive, no questions asked, and he didn't come with me like the other guy did. The experience at other dealers in the area doesn't seem to be anything like this. Is this a common thing at hyundai/genesis or something local to my area?

I drove the 2022 G70 3.3t Sport Prestige today and it feels like it's intentionally made to feel "safe" and isn't as easy to "mess around with" as my G37. I liked the speed of the upshifts and availability of power while cruising then stepping on it. The braking seemed a little weak, but I do have upgraded slotted 2 piece rotors, Hawk HPS pads, stainless steel brake lines and 5.1 fluid. I drove the car in sport+ the entire time and it was pretty comfy. There's a huge block by the rear-view mirror which indicates to me it would be a pain mounting a dashcam there and would possibly block the view a bit. The rear-view mirror was also a bit stiff to adjust to my height (I'm 6 foot 3) but the headroom in the car was better than in mine. Roomyness overall was about the same, if not slightly better. The technology was obviously much more advanced, including the reponsiveness of the screen, how nice the screen displayed and the features. My car was originally released in 2008. Based on research I've done online I think I could wake the car up a bit with some mods, but I still think the Mustang would have more of the rowdy driving experience I would enjoy. It all depends on if I want to settle down into a more luxury-focused vehicle or not. The G70 seemed to have a higher emphasis on luxury in ratio to sport, compared to my G37. The voice commands seemed to work fine but when I named the dealer to go back it gave me dealers under the same ownership from other cities in the first couple pages, rather than the one only a couple miles away from me. I had to specify the city name I was in -- that was disappointing. There was a strange thing about the power that is hard to name after looking back trying to recall my drive. Maybe it had to do with where the power was in the powerband. I'm used to having it pretty even in my G37. The G70, while using launch control is doing about what my car does in 0-60 (G70 was 0.1 seconds slower), but I was doing it on a slight downhill incline in the G70 (though, AC was on). Autohold was strange, but I can probably get used to it and I did turn it off during the drive. The HUD didn't seem to display even though in the settings it said it was on, and I turned the brightness up on it all the way. The backwards RPM gauge may also take some getting used to, and it's very strange.. but probably not a big deal at the end of the day. I didn't like that it auto-shifted when I was in manual mode and let the RPMs get high, but I assume people remove this with a tune. I have a few more comments but I'll just leave those to the questions.

Questions:

  1. The navigation guidance voice was very LOW compared to music. Is there a way to adjust that?
  2. Does anyone have comments on mounting a dashcam below that gigantic block behind the rear-view mirror? Does it obstruct your view? Is it really easy to see the cam from outside the car?
  3. Is there a fix for the navigation trying to route me to a dealer in another city under same ownership rather than giving me results with the one a couple miles away from me at the top of the results? When I searched for the same term but said "in <cityname>" it knew to pull up the local dealer.
  4. Any idea what was going on with my HUD not displaying? I had it enabled in the settings and brightness turned all the way up and it wasn't on.
  5. Does anyone else have the annoying wind noise from the passenger side when the front windows are down and you're cruising through town? I kept hearing this whenever I had the windows down and it was very annoying. Is there any known fix for this?
  6. The materials in the interior are very nice. How are they holding up?

Most of your complaints can be adjusted, including the HUD, which probably was too low/high (use the up/down arrows to adjust it to your liking). And unless you enjoy the crappy sound of a V6, I'd buy a pre-2022 3.3T, which doesn't have the valves. There's no way to turn them off, since Genesis didn't update the software, and the 'custom' drive mode does not include the exhaust valves. The adjustable suspension has also proven unreliable, so another reason to skip a new top-trim 3.3T as well. The 2022 I owned for a few days wallowed in a couple of curves I tackled on the way home, just like my ex-2019 Mustang Bullitt, which I fixed with sub-frame braces, so you could do the same with the G70, if you like to push it in the twisties. You'd be missing the new face/rear with a 2021 or prior, but I'd be happy with that trade-off. And seems like you don't want a new one, so great. Good luck.

#6 - interior materials seem to be holding up just fine so far. driver seat bolsters and leather is wearing well, no butt bubbles as you may have on the G37's driver seat. but i have seen some guys who complain about the seat trim (red pinstriping) which is wearing. not me, but i am quite OCD with my ride.

i came from a G37S 6MT sedan. the G70 is a very different ride. much more refined, far superior tech and mod-cons, and the LSD does a way better job putting down power than the G37S LSD. i loved the G37S, and G35 before it, which felt like a japanese muscle car compared to the G70. the G37S was more playful, tail happy, and analog feeling. i also loved the G37S's linear power delivery, but no question the G70's torque makes a big difference in the midrange.

Polaroid lenses can make the HUD pretty much disappear.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure that's what was happening now. I think I had my sunglasses on.

I can still see the HUD with polarized sunglasses on my 2022 SF Calli, but more subdued, and it has to be at the highest (20) intensity. But maybe different brands affect that more than others. The main reason I like HUD is the blind spot warning and speed, so will miss that on the 2.0T. But at least you can set the speed in the middle info screen, so I'd do that rather than the TPMS on the SF. And just look at the mirrors for the blind spot warning light. As a motorcyclist, I'm always watching my 6, bike or car, but like to confirm there's no vehicle on the blind spot when changing lanes. The system works flawlessly on Hyundais so far, so I trust it... but has never needed it so far, since I'm always aware of my surroundings while driving. The G70 is due this week, so looking forward to the test ride, and that the wife likes it.

I work at a car dealership and the reason salespeople usually do not let someone take the car themselves is that insurance won't cover an accident if a rep from the dealership isn't in the car, what the other guy did is take a risk.

1. that is something you can change in settings.

Varies by dealership from my experience. I've had a couple ride with me but others let me just take it. One dealer where I had bought previously told me to bring it back tomorrow.

That's why they ask you for your insurance :). If you don't have any, then a rep has to be in the car indeed.

Not in Canada, we use the dealership's insurance.

I’ve had several dealers copy my DL and insurance card and say go have fun. I like the more laid back dealers who don’t require a sales person to be with me.
I had a G37S, a number of folks here came out of a G37. I loved that car and had zero issues the 9 years I owned it. My G70 3.3 sport has more punch to it when I hit-it while in sport mode than my Infiniti. Liked the screen being built into my dash on my G37 vs the Genesis design. Way more features on my G70 than my G37 which was fairly loaded back at that time. Interior on my G70 is holding up fine and coming up on 3 years this November. Have not noticed any strange noises and don’t use the nav all that much and when I do, I think car play is doing the work for I just tell the car where I want to go and it pulls up directions and or route choices. Genesis (Hyundai) dealers are not Infiniti dealers so don’t expect a similar level of service. If you do you will probably be disappointed.
