  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all - I have had my 4.6 for about a week now and I LOVE driving this car! It's quick, is quiet, and it's georgeous.

My only nitpick is the audio system. I was really looking forward to enjoying the system.

Main Issues:
  • Surround Sound must be reset after I turn off the car
  • If my IPod is plugged in, the care defaults back to it even if the last thing I was listening to was XM.
  • When listening to a CD, if I get an incoming call the CD does not pause - it keeps playing.

Having said that - this car drives like a champ. Hopefully these other issues are easily fixed.

Thanks!

I have a 2011 4.6 no issues as you have listed. But I use a usb drive and not an ipod. Go through all you audio settings and check what the nav/dis manual says about each setting. Also study the manuals, you will find out things your car will do that you will not discover otherwise.

Keep in mind the that each audio source can have it own settings. Also, not sure if this could be your issue, but, with my MB, every once and a while, my iPod will take longer to connect. This causes my system to switch to the iPod as though I plugged it in after everything else is running. I do a hard reset on my iPod and all is well after that. Hope that works with the Genesis for you.

Thanks everyone - I'm going to spend some time in the manual this weekend to see if I can fix these things on my own!

I picked up Consumer Reports' 2012 car guide and checked the review for the Genesis: 3 black circles representing the reliability of the audio system for years 2009-2011. WHEN the audio system works we all agree that it's pretty sweet. This thing with the audio suddenly taking a vacation or needing the surround to be re-set each time or the IPOD integration or the lack of streaming music..it all adds up to a horrible score. I am happy with 90% of the car but this audio sysem is just substandard. Hyundai obviously employs bright, forward looking mangement but they failed with the audio system. I would trade less "fidleity" in my Hi-Fi for a more robust sytem.

Is this for the v6, v8, tech, standard, or premium?

I think more issues are present with the tech (particularly the no audio streaming). I've owned two Genesis both 3.8. The first was the 2010 "premium" and now the "tech" version. Both versions had periods where the audio just cut out and the only fix I found was to park the car for several hours. That was extremely fustrating. I guess I understand that Hyundai can't fix a problem that they don't find when they receive the car BUT I believe they know there is an issue and they will not do anything about it.Hyundai should provide a fix (they will probably change the system for future owners but that doesn't help us). Curious enough the touch screen models (ie non tech) have a simple interface that uses bluetooth audio. That seems wrong. The higher priced, better equiped model should eclipse and contain the options of the lower tiered vehicle.
