  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The power numbers for the 2011 Genesis 3.8 and 4.6 are squarely in the premium-class ballpark; more important, both engines furnish fine performance. Hyundai says the 10-horsepower improvement drops the 0-60-mph time of the 2011 Genesis 4.6 sedan by almost a half second, to 5.3 seconds.

whaaaaat?

The best number that's been published for the 4.6 is 5.3 seconds. I'm pretty sure when places like Motor Trend get a hold of the 5.0 it'll be lower than 5.1 seconds. But only time will tell.

My own experience with a 2009 and a 2011 4.6 is that the 2011 is materially more powerful. It feels much more than 10 hp, more like 20+.

It is pretty clear that the baseline performance 0-60 for a 2009 4.6 is about 5.3 Sec. This is what is consistently reported by magazines. My guess is the 2011 is at least 0.1 faster 0-60.

I think Hyundai is either/both conservatively reporting R-Spec performance figures and/or further restricting performance through lower gear torque management.

I can't hard launch my 09 without the nanny cutting power. so the "real" 0-60 speed is unreachable. If the RSpec has the same nanny that extra power will not help for launches... The difference in 0-60 times will be due to the better grip of the better tires....

I noticed once I put the extremecontact DW on in place of the dunfails my hard launches improved a lot.

Have you tried pulling the nanny fuse?

You need some wide, sticky back tires so the traction control doesn't come on so early. If you defeat the T/C then your 0-60 time goes up in smoke. A better measure would be a 5-60 rolling start where traction would be less of an issue. We had the same problems with the GTO. Too much power for too little tire. When the traction control was off, the car would just boil the tires. I think the 5.0 will be substantially faster on a rolling start than the 4.6 because of the 10%+ greater hp.

I put 1 inch wider tires on, (which are also stickier), which greatly improved the launch but still the nanny kicks in on hard launches.

first time was correct, I hate the metric system,

from 9.25 to 10.04 inches...

Wallymn,

I have had my extremecontact DW for now 5,000 miles.
I know how to defeat the nanny...;) Trust me.
I cannot get the tires to scream in a straight line launch.

I don't understand how you can since you have the same tires.

BTW
I am totally impressed with this tire. It is super smooth and super quiet.
I'm also very impressed how sticky they are.

I will buy them again for sure.

These tires are the DW and not the DWS? Correct?
