  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It was getting dark outside and I wasn't sure if the camera was set up correctly, I've never used GoPro but I'll learn ;)
The highway was almost empty.

ps. Admin/Mods: how do you enable video thumbnails? it seems something is broken here, I can only get hyperlink, no matter what I do.

I'd be happy to take out a life insurance policy on you, with me as beneficiary. Sure thing investments don't come along often these days.

Wow...In my other forum it would have been locked/warned and possibly banned.

C'mon, don't tell me you guys never done that before! What's the point getting a 429HP and drive like Prius? :D

For the record: I haven't been in any accidents for the past 15 years, and I've put over 2 million miles in since than.
It's not the speed that cause accidents, believe me.

You're a fool for driving like that with other cars on the road. You may think you know what you're doing, but what is that other driver going to do when he sees someone coming up behind him that fast. Maybe he's driving on bald tires and one of them blows just as you're about to pass.

You need to find an empty stretch of highway to do that.

Rules of the road: keep to the right, past on left!

Maybe he's driving on bald tires and one of them blows just as you're about to pass.
Only FOOLS drives on bald unsafe tires! If I worried about everything that could happen, I'd never leave the house. ;)

btw.
It was YOU who posted ~2 weeks ago a picture going 150 mph! how do we know that wasn't you driving.

@videopho
I agree, best place to do that is a track.....but I wasn't street racing, and there were just a few cars on the highway and I got a little carried away ;)

Guys, don't make it so personal, just enjoy your car :)

Didn't even look like you were on an interstate when you did that. Just don't get it. Take it to the track or pick a safer road.

Yep!

After driving for the first time on the German autobahn where there was no speed limit I found the hardest thing to get used to is estimating how fast a following vehicle is. The closing speeds are faster there than anything I have experienced on road or track. From the time their headlights spread from one to two it seems it is only 4-5 seconds.

It's called "perception of distance" - a lot of people in US don't have it, not to mention clogging the left lane like they own it. There is no common sense or courtesy between drivers.
That's why we do not and never will have roads with no speed limits!
I've driven on autobahn many times, so I know how it is.

Below is a great example what I'm talking about.

The cop should've pulled that car over and given them a ticket or warning for driving too slow in the left lane. That's the way to change their habits. Otherwise, they'll just move back in to the left lane after the cop has passed. They just have no clue about what's going on except for what's right directly in front of them.

I don't know how to say this nicely, but you're an idiot to drive that fast on highways with lots of cars. You and a lot of other innocent people could have been killed if one of those drivers, you were flying by, decided to change lanes (or was distracted by something).

It's not speed that kills, it's the speed differential.

Yeah, exactly. I was on I-75 with my wife and parents last summer. Some jackass in a new Camaro must have been going at least 120 behind me as I moved into the left most lane to pass someone.

I had absolutely no visual warning in my mirrors as he swerved into THE SHOULDER to the left of me to avoid plowing right into me. The speed differential was so large that combined with the hilly terrain, one second no one was there and then the next second someone was inches from my bumper.

If there had been no shoulder to my left I'm confident he would killed us all with the speed he was carrying. Scared the absolute shit out of me when it happened too. He nearly bought it on the concrete divider wall too before he pulled back into traffic.

Watch the video again (if you even watched it) and see WHERE are those "lots of cars" are? obviously you "missed" that part when I was down to ~75-80 ....not to mention waiting on ON ramp 5:50min so I could find a clear/empty spot and floor it.

See, this is what I would never do that: showing off/ waving in and out. Stupid, reckless drivers do that.

Thinking like that, I guess Germans must be so stupid, eh?
