  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Look at this schit.. Just to be clear.. If GM and BMW are finally EVEN with their comparisons.. TWIN TURBO V6 to TWIN TURBO V6 with 8 speeds.. This thing is already KILLING.. with no return. 535i left for dead. BMW 335i XDrive is BARELY keeping up and WAY LIGHTER.. ATS WOULD DOMINATE WITH THIS ENGINE/TRANS..

How would the R-Spec hold up ?? Not even ??

THIS IS NOT AN OPTIONAL SOUPED UP TURBO V6. JUST THE REGULAR TURBO/8 Speed Offering. LOOK AT THE 0-60, 0-100 and 1/4 Mile :

Here : 2014 CTS VSport Test Review

Oh god ... here it comes...

/emote waits for GC to come in so we can spool up the FI vs NA debate !!!

never did make that thread... rather use the energy fighting the wife ;)

(ill keep this short)

most car manufacturers have improved over the years GM/Ford/Kia/Hyundai/etc...

While engine performance may increase to similar or above BMW/Hyundai/etc standards the full experience is usually lagging behind. so GM/Hyundai/etc will always be the underdog to BMW Mercedes etc.

All that being said I stick to my guns that a Forced 6 is better then a NA 8. weighs less, power band predictable, more torque down low, manageable lag (quite frankly far less delay with lag vs the transmission lag with the RSPEC). better weight distribution , better gas mileage.

Turbo's aren't prone to the failures of yester year.

But the interior of the CTS is way smaller than the Genney, espically in the back seat. ;)

I seriously question those times from C&D. MT got 4.8s and Edmunds got 5.1s(4.8s with the rolloout other magazines neglect to mention they use for acceleration tests). Those numbers are more in line with the R Spec. Even MT says their times was weather corrected and those numbers were from a base car with no options. Not impressed. If Hyundai has finally worked out the chassis issues with the 2015 Genesis and has shaved some weight, I think the next R Spec will still be the better buy as it won't get anywhere near the CTS' $71K fully loaded asking price.

Because CTS is based on the ATS' platform, it suffers the same issues as the ATS; class competitive exterior dimensions and weight, but deficient interior and trunk space.

just 2 cents.. next Rspec will prob be around 3-5K more then existing so that puts it around 51-53K. AWD V8 would prob do the 4+ 0-60. again right in line with the CTS 6tt.

given discounts for GM 5-8K and 3-5 for Hyundai (a year later) would translate to..

45-48K vs 63-65K.

GM has a contender but it is 15K more (by my estimates).

all that being said... if Hyundai increases the price more then my estimates makes the lines blurred.... The GM has great seats neat instrument cluster and god knows what other tech.

still it would be tough for me to find the extra 10-15K to buy the CTS.

Have always liked the CTS and now ATS (which I thought about buying until I opened the trunk). Like others have said, just not sure the CTS-V would be worth 15-20K more than an R-Spec. Hard to beat what you get for the money with the Genesis!

your right the trunk is appalling .

for a car this size at a premium price... im surprised it sooo small.
for me though the trunk size isn't a concern... but If I was cross shopping it would be a comparison point.

I too was appaled at the CTS when I went car shopping back in '08.

I was set on buying a Pontiac G8. While I was at the dealer, I asked my sales man to show me the CTS. I've bought several cars from him so he knows I'll walk if he BS's me. He tells me I don't want to see it, it's too small. I told him to show me anyways, thinking it's the same size as the G8, how could it be smaller.

Sure enough, less head room and rear seat leg room that the G8. He just laughs and says, "I told you so" as we walk back to the G8, which I bought.

Funny part is, when I got the Genney, I was supprised that it's actually a little shorter and narower than the G8 but has a ton more room inside, espically in the rear seat leg room and the trunk. So that tells me that the CTS is super small.

Remember.. this is NOT the CTS-V. That is still coming. This is the CTS-VSport which the mid level offering.

Then I think I need multiple exclamations !!!!!! :p

Yeah.. these are ridiculous List prices...... as I would be surprised they hold. They will have to deal I bet.

This mid-level offering still kicks the tar out of most.

Co-worker has a CTS. HATES it, always in the shop getting fixed. LOTs of complaints on-line regarding rattling noises. He is not a happy camper, he often drives his wife's saturn (manual transmission, manual windows....).

I came from a Bonneville and the interior seems to be close to the same.

Not sure of the point of this thread. A 550i is not a M5. As mentioned, this is not the CTS-V, and even that doesn't kick everything to the curb. There are some mighty fast AMG's, M's, P-cars, Ferrari's and more lurking around, that are waaaaayy faster..

How are you throwing these others in there.. FERRARI ?? WTF ????

Maybe for a little more simplicity.. use the division of premium high performance sedan.. although NOT ultra high performance.. aka M/AMG/V.

Instead of "Any" BMW.. Was referring to ANY of the Mid-Level models in the 5. 535.. 550

One interesting little tidbit from the CnD article on that Vsport:

"the engine, which is heard partly through the car’s audio system as a recording"

Piped in engine noise? Really?!

Still don't see your point. If you're going to talk "mid level" cars, then the R-Spec is out since it's the "top gun" for Hyundai, not second fiddle.

Oh, and this Caddy costs as much as an Equus and if price is not a consideration, then an Audi S6 is "mid level" and...............
