  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New to the group. Bought my R-Spec in January. Really love driving it. Just reviewing some of the threads here... helps to know that exhaust tip blackening thing is happening to others. My question: Just today (for the 3rd time) - sent the car back to dealership for transmission seal failure. Has anyone experienced even a single failure?

Nope with a 4.6 and 9k miles. Another fellow with an R-Spec said he had problems but his name escapes me. Perhaps other can help.

12 R-Spec bought 11/7/11. 8200 miles. No issues with leaks so far

Near 16K and not an issue at all...save PO4's being about 2-3k short of done. Great vehicle!

22,000 mi. on 12 R-Spec, no problems.

My RSpec transmission began to act strangely at about 7K miles. When any transmission comes to a stop from prior speed (any speed), it will downshift to 1st gear. Usually, that downshift is not noticeable.
I had a problem where about every 5th downshift was jerky and sudden. Dealership spent about a week trying to figure out the problem; and Hyundai replaced the entire transmission under warranty.
No worries since then, now at 30K miles.

Thanks for the responses. Very strange. This has been so frustrating - for no other reason than while it's in the shop - I can't drive it... 1st incident: approx 8k miles; 2nd: approx 22k; now this time: 34k miles. Transmission shifts evenly - never been a problem. Pressure overwhelms the seals - smoke billows out the bottom of the car.

You need to find out (google) the Lemon Law provisions in your state to determine whether you can get Hyundai to buy the car back. Start keeping careful written records of all repairs and how long the car has been in the shop.

21000 miles and no issues
