If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Folks - I am leaning strongly toward an R-Spec when they arrive but am cross shopping an Audi A6 (2011 model due to good deals) and Jaguar XF.

As I have not bought a car for 10 years I am spending a good amount of time on my homework. I currently drive an '02 Acura TL type S.

Any thoughts on these cars are appreciated. Particularly if you have cross-shopped them as well or own one.

For the Audi I like the paddle shifters and AWD. With the Jag it is all about the sweet exterior. The R-Spec looks to be the best all around vehicle for my wants and needs (the former being a far longer list than the latter).

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Newman

Since you seem to buy a car every 10 years, I'd say reliability is important. Neither Audi or Jag impress there.

^^what he said

Unless you have so much free time on your hand and it's ok to spend 2 months in a year just to bring the car to Audi dealership to get things "fix." do NOT get any Audi(or VW)

I might throw the new 2012 TL AWD in the mix for consideration. It looks a lot better than the one released in 2009. Hard to beat Acura for dependability. Of course, after 10 years, I can understand that you may want to try a different brand.

Agree that the new TL SH-AWD is a strong contender. Except for the looks, which are a deal breaker. To me this year simply 'sucks less'. It would be too big a down grade from my 02 TL with factory wing and body kits.

When I got mine, I cross-shopped against a used BMW 5, used Mercedes S, new Genesis, all right around the same price. The Genesis was such a great car that it wasn't worth going used for me to get the prestige of the others. For you it will come down to price. I have to admit, I do like the Jag's look though!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
BUT it is a Jag. Nothing ages faster or enjoys vacationing with a mechanic with its bonnet up like a Jag!

I've owned Two A6's - both were 4.2L. Nice cars, however the second one had a tranny that had a mind of it's own. After 3 times in the shop and spending over a month back at the dealership, I was told that it's behavior was normal. Funny though, they changed the tranny the next year. I changed cars. I've never owned a Jag and I'm told that it's time with Ford was more positive then negative. They are beautiful inside and out, but for the money and warranty I'd go with the R Spec.

NEVER AGAIN WILL I OWN A GERMAN CAR. I might lease one, though.

Almost bought a Jaguar X-Type in 2001... but the nearest dealer was 45 minutes to an hour away, and I figured it'd probably be spending lots of quality time there... little did I know, my German car did that very thing.

R-SPEC.

the thing that sold me on the genesis was the LACK of mechanical problems i could find on them. only problem that seemed to pop up was the ride quality, which i never found to be an issue after a bunch of test drives and even an entire day with a 1500mi loaner (V6).

So only you can be the judge after driving them. but for me i couldn't see spending the $$ on the Audi or Jag when the Genesis gives you 90% of those cars (and in some cases more than 100%) for way less cash. it's nice looking, plain and simple inside adding to its elegance and has the best warranty around. for you that will be a wonderful bonus owning cars as long as you do. keep us informed, that R-Spec is sweet.

also the DIS knob controller problems in the early builds but i haven't heard of any recently?

Before getting my Genesis, I looked at:

1.) Jaguar XF
2.) BMW 535
3.) Audi A6

While I love the look of the Jag, its reliability leaves much to be desired, so had to nix that one first.

I used to own an Audi S4, loved it, had few mechanical problems, but when I did need something on it fixed, it was an arm and a leg. Didn't feel like getting hit with those kinds of meechanical bills again, so no A6.

My father got the new, fully loaded 535 and I got to drive his, then took the Genesis for a test drive. While I do like the Bimmer, I just could not justify spending that much more to get (or going with a used one when I can get a brand new Genesis for a great price).

that's the story here. the value to be had with a genesis out weighs all others and in the end if these questions come up, it's because money (value) is on your mind. unless you have a large disposable income you want a higher percentage value vs product, otherwise we would all be driving S65's lol...

Don't preclude it until you drive it. Hung with and actually bettered an S4 on a course if I remember correctly.....for thousands less. But if looks and gadgets are important...get the Genesis.

Newman,
I'm in the same situation, I want to retire my 10 year old 02' Acura TL-S (which has treated me well), and I've narrowed my top three contenders to the Genesis R-Spec vs. 12' TL SH-AWD vs. 13' Taurus SHO

Although I find the Taurus even uglier than the TL, I do like the Ford My Touch which will be integrated in next year's release of the SHO. I'm leaning towards the Genny with it's sporty performance, sharp looks, good trunk & rear seat space, and exceptional value.

Just awaiting the dealer to call when the R-spec arrives and then I'll test drive all three.

I agree with the others, stay away from Audi/Jag.

Good luck!
