  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On some occassions, I found that I drove the car unintenntionally faster than allowed speed limit , since the Genesis is quite fast and quitest and I am a conservative driver, I don't want to drive fast. Would like to have a good radar detector to remind me to avoid potentially speeding ticket? Would someone have good experiences on radar detector recommendation? Rather than doing the research on my own, I thought I can learn from your experiences. Thanks for your kind information. Regards, ld_gen

Please post topics not specifically related to the Genesis in the lounge... I'm moving this topic there now..

Thank you...

I have a Valentine One and I swear by it. I love the directional arrows and the fact that it gives me more intel on where the public safety officers are. That being said, I think that the GPS features in the new Escort Passport 9500ix are awesome. Hopefully Valentine One will match this feature.

Radar detectors aren't really effective against Lidar (laser) though...

On a tangent, I was worried that the radar guided cruise control would trip my radar detector, but they are different frequencies.

I used to have a cheapo Cobra detector back in 2002.
Used it for a couple of years but that didn't save me from getting a ticket.
I'm sure the more expensive units like Valentine 1 and Passports(9500) are way more effective than the cheaper ones, but the best thing is keeping the speed @ the allowed limit.
It's been over 7 years since I hit triple digit speed, and the fastest I go these days are 9mph over the speed limit.
Abiding by the law is safer and easier on your wallet than trying to beat it. ;)

Beltronics Pro RX65.

Purchased as a refurb. 6 years ago off ebay and still my co-pilot. In fact, it saved me through a construction zone this morning!!

As previously mentioned, Laser is instantaneous and nearly impossible to avoid.

On flat Interstate, I can smell the cops a good 1.5-2 miles ahead of me.

Google Radar Roy...he's good and an ex-cop. If my memory serves me well, the Pro RX65 is STILL among the top 3.

Keep EBAY in mind...and save A LOT of money!!!

My V1 rocks.... I've had many saves with it. Although, nowadays cops are using laser which can be detected by new detectors but the cops already have your reading so you'll still get stopped. Anyway, the Escort 9500ix has a GPS feature that will let you know if you go over a specified speed limit that you enter in.

So if you set the escort to 65mph and you go 66mph it will go off. If you have red light cameras in your state it will warn you about them as well.

Thanks to alll for your kind sharing good experiences and tips. I don't like to drive fast but the car does, so having radar detector will help reminding me to obey speed limt and avoid costly tickets. I don't know much with latest car radar detector technologies and since the car has its own radar for Smart Cruise Control, does anyone has seen interferences that would effect the funtionality between radar detector and car radar SCC?

It really depends on where you drive. If you want top of the line, go V1 or Escort 9500ix. If you are driving mostly in cities, then the features of the 9500ix can help a lot. If you are looking middle of the line, the Escort 8500 and Beltronics RX65 are both great choices. There are cheaper ones, but from the research I've done you want to stay mid - high grade when it comes to radar detectors. I really only use mine for trips, so middle of the line is fine with me, hence my owning the Beltronics Pro RX65.

I have this with the hardwire kit: Beltronics Pro RX65.. Love it!

Yerp! The hardwire kit rocks...unfortunately, when I sold my Camry, I forgot to remove it! Typical...

Either way, you just reminded me to purchase a new one! Thanks!;)

I just did a hardwire on mine last night. You don't need to purchase anything special, I just used a standard phone cable, worked like a champ.

Edit: PM me if you would like more info on how to do this.

That'll work too, but you wouldn't have the controls unless you modify it. The hardwire kit comes with a "remote" control - controlling volume.
