  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It was over 100 degrees here in Texas this morning when I pulled into my garage. I noticed that when I turned the engine off and opened my car door I heard a chirping noise. At first I thought there might be a bird in the garage when I heard this "chirp" "chirp" noise that continued for a couple of seconds then quit. The thought occurred to me that it might be the radiator fan so I started the car again and shut her down. Same "chirping " noise. I did spin the fan manually after the car cooled down. It spun easily with no noise. My 2015, 3.8 has 31,000 miles. Otherwise it has been mechanically sound. Anyone else had this problem?

Many radiator fans will continue to blow air even after the engine shuts down if the temps are high enough. I assume the Genesis does the same.

No, the 2nd gen does not continue. I'm referring to the "chirping noise" possibly coming from the fan's bearing as it winds down after being turned off. My fear is getting caught in a situation (far from home) where the fan might seize, thus losing its cooling function.

You may be correct about the bearing. Keep in mind though, the fan is only needed at low speed. Some do not operate at all at higher speeds, so if it does die on you, take the highway and hope no big traffic jams.

As for it continue running, mine has on a hot day. It was only about 85 at the time.

According to kavisic you are wrong about the 2nd generation Genesis sedan. Maybe your car is a counterfeit made in North Korea?

That explains a lot. The dealer told me the perforations in the leather seats was for cooling. Turns out it is leather from undernourished cows in NK.

I checked the door jamb and it does say "Made by UN in NK"! (I will remember to keep the car moving and turn the air conditioning off!)

Thanks for the info EdP. I was just trying to see if this was a common problem with other owners. Perhaps I should have said the fan on "my 2015 3.8 rwd" does shut down when the engine is turned off. I didn't mean to "ruffle" any feathers.
