  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New problem. Drove the car and was listening to the radio. Stopped for dinner and when I returned the radio was nonfunctional. No AM/FM, XM, and no Ipod. When switched to XM the DIS displayed "Check Antenna". Drove car home and still no response. Next morning started car and the radio worked just fine. This has happened three times now. Anyone else having this issue? Haven't taken to the dealer as yet because no sense going in when radio is functional.

All I am going to say is welcome to the crowd and Hyundai does not seem to have a clue as to what the problem is and if they are addressing this issue they are keeping it a secret.

I had the same problem, as have many many others on this site. I learned that if I shut the ignition off for five minutes or more, like going into a gas station to pay, or into a grocery store, as long as it was over 5 or 10 minutes, when I restarted, everything would come back on.

Corrected (fixed) under warranty when dealer ordered and installed a new amplifier.

Must not be the same problem, as Hyundai and dealer will not replace or do anything until they see the radio/nav not working. I have told them it has failed four different times now. There are also people who have had antenna and amp replaced to no avail.

My dealer was telling me they wouldn't do anything until they saw it happen too, which I couldn't duplicate when they were present. The next time it happened I took a video with my phone and they didn't have a leg to stand on.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I have a 2010 with Tech package and have had no problems with radio or Nav.

I have a 2010 and if you have not had the problem IMO it is just a matter of time, it's about like the tilt wheel issue.

Several long threads on this in the "electrica"l section.

Yea, now it looks like several long threads in this section. It will be nice to see a fix from Hyundai in any section.

Intermittents with the electrical/electronic system of my Genesis are driving me crazy. Driver seat positioning, voice command, bluetooth ...........

I leased it and I will dump it.

The Dealer story is always the same ... "We cannot fix any issue that our technicians cannot replicate".

COP OUT!

As a software developer I can identifiy with the dealer's position. When my users experience problems that I can't replicate, which does happen from time to time (and is always due to an external problem such as a network or other glitch), I can't fix them either. How do you fix something that ain't broke?

You hit the nail on the head!and that is exactly why Hyundai has not solved some of these issues, they believe if they cannot see the problem there is no problem, it makes no difference as to how many people say that there is a problem.
I know it is hard to fix a problem you cannot see but at least act like you are interested or concerned IMO that is far better than doing nothing.

As a retired EE I can suggest that, software aside, there might just be some common sense issues at work here. My driver's seat will often not go back. It could be a control switch or a limit switch. Or, it could be software. Software is not usually intermittent in such a basic function as moving a seat forward and backward ... OK, you say as a software guru that it is a memory function and I say why would it only prevent me from moving the seat back?

Two switches ... control and limit ... change them both and achieve a higher level of customer satisfaction.

Yes there are bugs in the electronics...kind of like logic glitches. Leading edge/bleeding edge and not so much leading edge technology but new equipment and new malfunction issues that Hyundai does not have a handle on. Over time I think Hyundai will make corrections or the drip, drip, drip of this criticism will start to gain traction with the general automible buying public and Hyundai will pay a price along with the then unfortunate owners of their products. So much momentum and buzz could be wasted by this sort of thing. People will run from Hyundai if they find them in any way unreliable...

That just happened to me this week coming home from work, i get in my car and nothing worked, not even my bluetooth. I got food and came back to the car and still nothing. I started the car the next morning and all was good. First time it happened, sounds like it won't be the last.

2nd radio failure today. 2012 4.6 2 months old with about 6000 miles. Both times it reset after a couple hour wait.

Why doesn't Hyundai/Dealers acknowledge this problem and find a solution.

Geez, take a clue from the Iphone 4S battery issue.

Just happened to my 2009. Went to lunch radio worked. Came out 45 minutes later, No sound from DVD, CD will not play (you can select a CD but no track will play, XM reports check antenna, FM cannot tune a station, AM cannot be selected (double tapping the am/fm button does nothing).

Clearly a software issue, as all functions are affected. This happened once two years ago, I hope it self resolves.

I have a 2009 Genesis sedan with the AM/FM XM option (No nav/camera/HD radio). For the las year and a half I have experienced intermittent problems with my stereo;
1. Started with a booming sound from the rear speakers with no AM/FM sound.
2. Now I have intermittent AM/FM stereo which only occurs when the car is turned on with the stereo set on an FM station.
3. The dealer has changed the amps numerous times - but has not permantly fixed the problem.
4. I have recorded the problem numerous times and given the dealer the video, but they seem to keep wanting to replace the amps.

I will continue to record the problem with a camera until they repalce every component in the system.

I also have a 2010 with tech package. 50k miles. Occasionally, I have the same problem too. At least mine gives me a reason. On the display, it says, "The RDS is starting. Try again later." I have never reported it because it always fixes itself. My control knob just started malfunctioning, turning the knob has no effect. Getting ready for the bad news!

I am still having trouble with XM. When I turn off the car while listening to a station on XM3 the radio reverts to a station on XM1....not every time but
(80%). Radio plays for 1-3 seconds on the XM3 station then goes to XM1. I have tried to reset XM via smart phone link but no luck.
I will address in about two weeks when my next service will be due.
