  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rain Water Pours Into Trunk When You Open It During or After Rain?

There is a thread on the Hyundai Think Tank forum where a couple people say that rain water collects in the area around the rim of the trunk, and when the trunk is opened in the rain, or just after rain, it splashes down into the trunk. I haven't seen any mention of the problem before, and searched the threads for it. Is this really an issue? If so, the cargo tray, and a permanent towel in there, would seem to be in order. Can others confirm this? (Still getting a new R-spec July 30-31.)

Does not do it any more than my Mercedes trunk. I think some people may have been use to an SUV or hatchback.

There have been numerous posts in this forum about that. It certainly does get the trunk a little more wet than any other car I have driven (never drove a MB in the rain). But overall, I personally don't consider it to be a major problem, just a minor annoyance.

Maybe a teaspoon comes off each of the side edges where the plastic lights meet up with the lid. Verifed in the middle of tropical storm Debby.

My old Honda Accord was worse.

Yes. Your solution works fine. That's what I do.

One of the reasons why I loved the way the 4th Gen Acura TL trunk was formed it had a nice crease which allowed for better drain off.

I also don't care for the flat bumper type style which promotes poor water channel drain off...

you know... the small stuff :P

Every new Genesis should have the optional rubberized cargo tray mat. Easy to wipe and clean. Covers the cheap carpet too. Get one, it's beautiful.

It does drop more water than previous cars I've owned, but I have the cargo mat so I don't worry about it.

If you open it right after washing the car you will get around 1/8 cup of water running into the trunk from each side. If you open the trunk slowly and give it a chance to run off there will not be much run into the trunk. This is the first car I ever saw that when you open the trunk water will pour into the trunk.

Also, don't try to check your oil after you've washed your car. The lip on the front chrome hood trim piece traps water and runs out when the hood is opened.

The rain it rolls off the top of the trunk and into the trunk soaking everything, rather than get channeled away from the edges and then roll down the back. Drives me completely nuts when it happens, especially living in Miami. But it is a small price to pay for an otherwise nice car to drive.
