  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My wife is looking for a new car as her lease expires soon. As she's not a car person, I'm trying to convince her to move away from a crossover into a sports sedan. We saw a Genesis g70 on the road and she really liked the looks of it so we decide to go check it out. Immediately we see 3 g70s on the Genesus dealer (see:Hyundai) lot. A salesperson comes over and explains to us that their only Genesis certified salesperson is out so they really wouldn't be able to help explain anything about the car. And then we see it...the $7,000 dealer markup on all 3 g70s sitting there. My wife proceeds to ask a couple of generic questions and then salesperson said he didn't know and she should just look it up on the internet. We left very shortly after as she marked the g70 off her list of potential options.

Not a good experience. Did she get tuned off by the ignorance of the salesman or the 7k markup? Not every dealer is that stupid and does not do the crazy add ons. If she still likes the looks and wants to drive one, check out a more sensible dealer. If you give a location someone here may be able to recommend one.

Don't give up until you talk a deal. They can't get it if they don't ask, but neither can you.
My G80 3.3 Sport was advertised on line and in print at MSRP, along with quite a few others at the dealership. I had no problem getting it down to the Circle A price, plus incentives.

After I took the car home, in the trunk I found the laminated window sticker (Mahoney label). Here's what they added to it, but never were idiotic enough to actually ask for:

"Dealer Installed Accessories

Value Package
(markup): $2495.00
Clear windshield tint: $399.95
Dealer Fee
(markup #2): $899.00
Market Adjustment
(markup #3): $5,000.00
Mud guards & wheel locks: $450.00

Dealer Installed options subtotal: $9,243.95

Total Price: $65,613.95
"

But, as I say, no one had the cojones to actually ask that. They advertised at the MSRP, $55,250.00, plus $45 first aid kit and $80 rear bumper applique.
My price with incentives and Circle A certificate was $50,144.75; plus tax, fees, etc.

Sure, this was a G80, but it's representative of actuality.

Paying a market adjustment on a G70 is ridiculous. They aren't exactly flying off the shelves. We have over 30 in stock, but we sell a good amount too. They amount of cars a dealer can get allocated is based on their sales. Sounds like if they only have 3, they aren't selling many at all, probably due to the "market adjustment". I'd find another dealer, if there is one.
