If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been very impressed with the quality of the Lexicon sound system in my 17-speaker 3.8. It's easily the best of any car I've owned.

For such a good system, in such a quiet car, I'd expect all spurious interior noises to have been ferreted out, but the damn rear shade rattles at the first hint of bass.

At first, just raising the shade would stop the rattle. It was only when down that the rattle was noticeable. But either it's gotten worse or I'm listening closer because now it vibrates against the rear glass when up and sounds even worse than when it's down.

Anyone else experiencing this?

A trip to the dealer seems to be the obvious next step, but if the rattle is a result of the design of the shade then I doubt there's much they can do, short of taking the damn thing out.

Thanks for any info! :o

Wow...not sure its a design flaw because my V8-Tech. has no such rattles. Id definately take it to the dealer but it is probably because the BASS rattled some screws loose. Trust me, it happens.

My brothers Avalon had a factory spoiler on his car and a HUGE system in the trunk. He came home one evening and half of the spoiler was hanging off the back of the car. Come to find out the nut was worked loose on both bolts and he rattled that thing straight out of the hole. I've seen car tags fall off of cars because of their systems.

However, the Lexicon does not hit as hard as aftermarket systems, but it could hit at the perfect frequency just enough to back off a nut.

Well, thats my 2 cents. :)

Some people reported that their rear shade had come slightly off it's tracks following a tint job. It was reportedly easy to put it back on and fixed the rattles they experienced then. Might be worth a look...

I don't know what you mean by the rear shade come slightly off it's tracks. I just looked at my rear shade, both going up, while up, and going down, and there are no tracks for it to follow, so installing a tint job will not cause problems with the rear sun shade to "come off it's tracks".

I heard it on the one I test drove last week. With all those pieces back there I expected it. My 2002 I35 had a rear shade and had similar issues. They padded under the back deck and cleared up most of it, then I added more padding and disabeld the rear shaded (as with all the padding the opening no longer lined up) and didn't care as I had tinted windows.

From what I understand there are tracks on the bottom piece that make sure the actual shade part stays straight when it goes up and comes back down.

Squeaks/rattles & adjustments are only covered during the 1st 12mos/12k mi, so take it in to the dealer & have them fix it while you're still under warranty. There should be no rattles if you are only running factory stereo equip. But, I have after market subs in my BMW & have to address rattles from time to time.

If you are talking about the slit area (track) located across the rear shelf, (where the screen disappers when down) this has nothing to do with tinting the rear window. It is well away from the rear window. The only thing that could hurt the screen would be if pieces of film, or liquid fell down into that area, and even then, I don't think it would hurt it.

Listen, I'm only telling the OP about what someone else posted here before which sounds a lot like his problem. I don't need you to argue someone else's solution to a problem that sounds strangely exactly like the OP's.

I had the same rattle. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the rear screen. It does not rattle any more but the new rear screen is noisier that the first one when it is going up. I plan to have them look at that during my next oil change.

This is worth looking into just had my windows tinted a month ago and have been noticing rattle from my rear shade that has been bothering me, thanks for the post.

NEW POST for an OLD THREAD!

I've got some rattling going on when listening to loud music. It is most prominent when bass is involved for obvious reasons. I always thought it was the trunk lining making the noise but it could be the rear shade. I haven't been able to see because I always forget when I get in the car.... then I forget when I get out. DAMN!

My lining in the trunk is loose though. I can move it with my hand pretty easily right about where the sub is. What do you all think? Every have this problem?

Not sure if it's the shade or the rear deck(my initial impression was that it was the deck itself rattling), but sometimes I get a slight rattle from the back when heavy bass is involved.
But most of the time, it's rattle free.
What bothers me the most is though, I get a lot of rattling from the inside of the door panels when I play DVD-A discs w/ heavy bass.

Thinking of sound deadening the doors to see if it'll make a difference.

Yeah mine is loose and with the radio off I can hear a slight rattle back there. Mine wasn't installed at the factory and I am thinking the dealer did a crap job installing it. I am going to look at it soon.

Is this rear shade an option or does it come with a 'package' and you have to take if you get the package?

The V8 comes with it as a standard feature, while the V6 comes with it in the premium package.
So unless it's a base V6 with no package, it'll have this feature.
