Greetings all - or re-greetings as it were. I started on this forum back in 2015 when I got a 2015 DH G2 Hyundai Genesis "G80" Ultimate AWD 3.8 on CPO and extended the B2B to 100k. I had the car for over 5 years and put well north of 100k on it. I was pretty active on the forum during that time. I had the transmission issue and went through warranty replacement, had the creaky sunroof issue and spent a lot of time trying to resolve it myself before ultimately going through warranty replacement. There were a couple of other small issues but overall I loved the car, and between this forum and my own efforts I became very intimate with it. I did the airbox flapper delete for more immediate & smoother power delivery, the LED accent brightness mod which turned them into DRLs, and a host of other things. I also got together with several other Genny owners around Chicagoland over the years and am probably responsible for 9-12 German to Genesis converts up until 2020.
I was also one of the first to drive & report here on the 2017 G90 upon its release and was looking very forward to a CPO 1st gen G90 as being my next ride (despite all of Turnme's hatorade towards it). It was quite sad the day I traded the 80 away towards a new Highlander on lease instead of a G90 - but circumstances & an aging father required me to change vehicle platforms, and the GV80 was fresh... but did not appeal to me from interior, exterior or price.
For all intents and purposes I had left Genesis behind at least for the time being, and I had left these forums behind as well.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, with recent circumstance changes yet again, and an upcoming end of lease on the Highlander. It has been great, and I have loved having an SUV - but despite it having several of the essential bells and whistles that were on the G80 Ultimate - it was nowhere near as smooth, quiet, comfortable and satisfying. So - I started looking back at Genesis - the G90 specifically.
I remembered I was not impressed with the mid-cycle refresh of it for 2020... namely the grille. I liked the headlight update, the taillight update, and the fact that the interior was essentially untouched from the 2017-2019 models.... but that grille was a huge turnoff. As well as the stock rims - which were a huge and unnecessary downgrade. The previous turbines were fine & quite beautiful by comparison. Over time the front grille has grown on me just a little bit - but I still really don't like it, and now the current generation is even more obnoxious.
I recently started researching the G90 anyhow between here and elsewhere online and am sadly disappointed in the direction that is has taken since its introduction. I will go more into the lengthy list of turnoffs in another thread in the 90 forum, perhaps... but the long and short of it is I am not going to be getting into a current generation 90. Between exterior and interior design, gadgetry and pricing - they have made a significant shift away from who their initial target market was, and the numbers are already showing that it has cost them dearly in sales compared to the 1st gen as that are now playing in a sandbox they don't belong in. In fact - after having recently taken the wife on a recent test drive of a 1st gen G90 - I am looking very likely at going that direction, instead.
So, I am on the hunt for a low-ish mileage 1st gen G90, preferably not black or brown on the exterior and interior (though I could do a black exterior with a non-black interior if pressed). Specifically I am looking for an Ultimate, AWD that has been well cared for. I know it will take some time to find the right car - and I am not at all in a rush. But hopefully something comes along in the next few months.
Until then - I will be on here catching up on a few years of posts and developments for the G90 and possibly the brand, and trying to help out the G90 and DH forums as much as possible. It is good to be back, and I hope to be around for a while if I am able to find the G90 I am seeking.
