• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

RE: Independent "Fog" Lights

Let's revisit this since it had seemed to die in another thread here.

I want to use the "fog" lights independent of the headlights. However, I want to use the OEM stalk and switch to activate the fog lights.

The reason I would like to do this is because I typically use the fog lights as DRL's that I can activate or deactivate if needed. I DON'T like "Audi Style" DRL's and I DON'T like DRL's in the headlights...looks dumb.

The Genesis coupe guys have it easy: http://www.Genesis Coupe.com/564752-post79.html

If anyone could shed some light on how to re-wire, I can usually take it from there.

Thanks in advance.

OneFun.

P.S. Do NOT turn this thread into a debate about when/how to use fog lights vs. driving lights. I am more aware than many of you about lighting and when to use each (I built my own projector headlights by hand in my basement). The other thread was turned into a debate about that and NOTHING was answered to the OP's question. Thanks.

I was in the same boat a couple months ago. Unfortunately, the sedans wiring in the stalk is very different than the coupes. I tried the coupes method without any luck. I also tried connecting/bridging/splicing almost every combination of wires in the stalk without any luck as well. As a last resort i just spliced into my HID's and ran it to a 15 amp fuse. I fiberglassed a little panel to fit in the useless open space underneath the CD drive and ran 2 switches to it (1 for the fogs, and 1 for the vent lights). I'll try to get some pictures later.

Although I couldn't find the right combination of wires to splice in the stalk, if you or anyone else figure it out, that would be great

Thanks for the response. Like I said, the coupe guys have it easy lol.

I will poke around in there. I would appreciate your pictures :)

Independent "Fog" Lights

Alright, time to resurrect an old thread. This is a mod that I am very interested in completing. I have what I believe to be all the information necessary. I am just not an electrical expert of any kind. I hope that someone who is better than I can look at this and figure it all out.

The way I am interpreting everything, the fog lights are directly powered and controlled by the FAM, (Front Area Module) from dual 40A circuits. The FAM gets the command thru the CAN bus from the Multi Function Switch. (Head light/fog light/blinker switch) This is the reason you can't splice or bridge directly from the switch. My plan is to power the fog lights directly from the front side marker lights. This way when the running lights are on, fogs are on, regardless of the hi beam. A relay might be necessary, but I do not think it will. (Again, I am not an expert)

If someone can look at the information I have on my GDrive and figure this out it would be awesome. If there is another harness or diagram needed, just let me know and I will provide it.

Re: Independent "Fog" Lights

I think something needs to trip the LCM to think that the low beams are "ON" at all times when the fogs are on.

Re: Independent "Fog" Lights

Well, I took apart my FAM in hopes that something could be figured out from the inside... It is 100% silicon inside. Nothing can be done without reprogramming and I did not see anything like JTAG headers. This is going to have to be a good 'ole fashioned relay setup. I was thinking of using either the driving lights or marker lights to signal the relay and power the fogs. The only problem with this would be not having any control unless you ran a separate switch into the cabin. Fine with me but others might object. I will start playing with the wiring diagrams and come up with something in a bit. My goal will be plug & play and 100% reversible. Back to the drawing board...
