  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I admit, I hardly check the oil level on this vehicle and I get the oil changed every 4-5K mi at the dealership. However, I do have a habit of starting to check oil level more often as my vehicles approach 100K mi etc

So, I checked it this morning (sat overnight) and the oil level is 4 in above the full mark? Is this normal? I checked it about 10 times over and over and still about 4 in above the full mark. Oil color looked awesome...almost like the color of honey and I am due for another oil change. But that reading is bothering me. Car runs great btw. Any thoughts?

Assuming that you wiped the stick clean before the measurement, I'd get the excess oil out ASAP. Over-oiling any internal combustion engine is bad practice.

serious? How can a dealership mess up something like adding too much oil? Does the 3.8t ake more quarts than the 4.6? Car runs fine just shocking to see the level that high. Also, it never shows how many quarts were added/exchanged on the dealership invoices.

The 4.6 V8 takes 6.87 quarts oil to fill. I think the newer 5.0 takes over 8 quarts. The dealer's service techs may not have been trained properly and may be putting 8 quarts in every V8 Hyundai.

Sounds like they added the fresh oil without draining the crankcase first.

Would make the job somewhat easier that way and 4 inches on the stick sounds like the equivalent of a full fill to me.

No used oil to dispose of either.
