I live in the Snow Belt. AWD gives much better control in snow conditions, and it's more sure footed in everyday driving. That's enough reason for me.
Yes, some folks get AWD and drive like idiots.(Just like some folks with V-8 engines) Is that the majority? I don't know, and I have not seen the data.
It's pretty ridiculous to suggest that either of these choices are not valid for some drivers.
That sums up the entirety of the idiocy in this debate. All renditions represent a compromise of sorts - but that is the whole point of offering different models as they will better suit the preferences of buyers with different priorities. Categorically dismissing the validity any single model is pretty dumb. And I really only see one person doing that.
