  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Really?? Another 25-30 mph driveshaft shutter thread??? Would like feedback from higher mileage owners.

Sorry for another thread on this subject. I could have tacked this on any of the other driveshaft threads (including one I started) but it probably wouldn't get the info I'm looking for.

My 2015 3.8 Ult. (bought Nov. '18, 38k mi.) started doing this around the 40k mark. One day it just popped up. I'm at 45k now and it doesn't seem to have gotten any worse. Like most, the chattering goes away after five miles or so and is forgotten about until the next day.

I've spent a lot of time researching this, including buying a used driveshaft with the plan of putting a new U-joint or flex discs in it. Found the flex discs but it turns out that the U-joint is next to impossible as the joint is non-standard size and is staked in (many manufacturers don't use circlips any more).

I'm now leaning towards leaving it as is as long as it doesn't get any noisier or the time extends.

Wondering if higher mileage cars continued to get worse noise/time wise and have they experienced any vibrations? I also see some who had the driveshaft replaced, the issue came back. Any comments on this would be appreciated.

I have it too. 2015 3.8 Tech/htrac. Dealer can't fix it so I leave it alone. It hasn't gotten worst. Now at 51K miles.

74k miles - nothing yet.🤞

Mine hasn't gotten worse in 6K miles, but is noticeably worse in cold weather. I cling to the theory that it's a component somewhere along the driveshaft warming up, as it does go away after 5-10 minutes, and is less noticeable in warm weather.

I read on the one post that the carrier bearing on drive shaft was the component making noise. I can't imagine the drive shaft needing a carrier due to it's short length? I looked under my car and did not see anything? Am > I wrong for thinking this?

I believe it does have one. I haven't looked under my car, but the vibration does seem to come from that area. Please see attached pic. And anything bearing related would be expected to undergo some thermal expansion as it warms up. Carrier bearing noise was something of an issue on older Genesis models, at least from reading posts on the Gen 1 Genesis threads.

Some driveline specialists say the problem is the bearing, some say it's the U-joint. That used shaft I bought has sagged 1/4" in the rubber mount. The bearing feels fine (30k miles) and the U-joint has light wear. Tempted to flip the bearing support 180 and see what it does.

Skipgen... Is that the original driveshaft?

As far as I know... I'm the 2nd owner and the Carfax didn't mention anything but the 9.2" Head Unit being replaced @ 30k miles. Everything else on it was just routine maintenance. I don't even have problems w/ my pano roof, although I silicone spray the crap out of it every 3-4 months.

Forgot to mention mine is a AWD, so the front shaft is a bit shorter than RWD.

Bought my 2016 AWD Genesis Ultimate CPO in Chicago before Christmas with 26,000 miles on it. Had to go to Chicago to find the right combination of miles and features. Michigan is sparse with respect to Gennys.

Noticed the fast clicking/ticking noise under light to moderate acceleration between 27-39 mph. Would last for about 5 miles and stop. Also some vibration, but perhaps unrelated.

Took it in to Michigan dealer for oil change and described the issue based on much reading on these forums. They said that it was news to them, but then the next day after a test drive informed me that they traced the issue to the drive shaft and ordered one under warranty but it was back-ordered. Hear that? Back-ordered. Tells me that I am not the only one having this issue. Is there a TSB out there to anyone's knowledge? CPO warranty applied, thank goodness.
