  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is it normal for the rear doors to not unlock when you pull the door handle? You have to unlock the door before it'll open while the front doors, I can just pull the handle and the door will open. Rear passengers get stuck inside... lol

If I put the car in Park before turning it off, it'll trigger the locks and they can get out but lately, I've gotten into the habit of just turning the car off because the car automatically goes into Park so the locks aren't triggered. I remember my 2015 Genesis was like this too. I thought maybe it's the child locks but that just prevents you from opening the door at all from the inside.

Hmmm. I have been turning my GV80 off and letting go into park on its own. Only my front doors have been unlocking. Maybe that is why.. I guess I need to see if manually putting into park will unlock all the doors.

OK, just went out to GV80 to check this out. If I just press to START/STOP button and let the system put the vehicle in park, none of the doors unlock. The driver and passenger doors will unlock if you pull the handles (as they should). I am guessing (since I did not check) if someone was in the back and the child lock is not engaged, the rear door will unlock when they pull the handle to open the door.

Now, if I press the P to put the vehicle into park, all the doors unlock.

Never really thought about this until you mentioned it. My wife asked why the rear doors did not unlock. Now we know.

In the Convenence section of the settings you can select one of two behaviors for when the doors should automatically unlock.

1. Unlock all doors if the engine is on and car shifts to P.
2. Unlock all doors when the ignition is turned off.

So, if your vehicle is set to unlock when shifted to PARK, and you turn off the ignition with the car in R or D no doors will be automatically unlocked. Yes, your car will automatically shift to park when the car i shut off, but it won't unlock because the ignition switch will be off when the shift happens.

When the second version is set, all doors unlock each time the ignition is turned off, regardless of what gear the car is in.

So you can choose what behavior you like. I tried it both ways, and I prefer option 1 where it unlocks when I hit the P button instead of when I turn off the car.

II like being able to put it in park with the engine running to allow someone to get in the car, or open the door to put a package in a seat. Since I am already in the habit from previous vehicles, I just maintain the habit of shifting to park, engaging the parking brake and turning off the ignition. It also leaves a kind of "panic mode" security feature, of being able to turn off the car and shift to park without locking any doors from the outside which option 2 precludes.

I wonder what the reasoning is behind not unlocking the rear doors with the door handle? Euro cars require a double pull. Of course, I can use the central unlock, put it in Park or the passenger can unlock it themself but in the locked position, it's hard to see where the lock is even though it's right above the door handle... lol

There are a couple of threads on here with the claim that it is for safety reasons. I read them, but I do not agree. I think it was to save a few $.

My last car had sensors on both the outside front and rear doors. I could unlock all the doors from front or back outside handles. I miss that with the Genesis. If I want to put something in my back seat I have to grab the front handle to unlock the back doors. It was real annoying at first, but I am getting used to it.

G90 has sensors on all 4 doors.
