  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was rear ended causing the headrest to deploy, throwing my head forward, while I was bracing myself pushing against the steering wheel, resulting in torn tendons in my rotator cuffs. The insurance company claims that the impact was no more than 5 MPH, but I know she was moving faster on impact.

At what speed does the headrest deploy? Any ideas or suggestions??

Don't know for sure but it doesn't take much. My car was rear ended at low speed (5-10mph) and they both deployed. These things are not like airbags that only trigger above 30mph, etc...

Am I understand you correctly. The headrests pushed your head forward so hard that it cause torn tendons?
I have been debating of disabling mine when I heard what they do. I was shocked when I found out what they do.

The headrest deployed? Huh!

The headrests on these vehicles have an anti-whiplash safety measure where the headrest will push itself out about 6 inches to help your head not slam backwards and cause whiplash. I have a video on my youtube channel @ Greasy_5.0 that shows you how to remove the headrests if you wish to reset the headlight to its normal position. You will likely have to remove the headrest to do so.

edit:

Wondering if the 2016 Ultimate has this feature,I too was rear ended but there was no reaction from either of my head rests.it I’m sure it was above 10mph.
Maybe they’ve decided these were not a great idea!

They give you quite a rabbit punch when they deploy. It's rather unpleasant. In my case I would have preferred that they had not deployed. No injuries, mind you, but dazed with a bit of a headache.

Sounds like maybe I dodged a bullet!

My headrests deployed this evening when I stopped in traffic on the freeway and was rear ended by a Jeep Wrangler.

The force was strong enough that it caused my elderly mother to hurt her head and neck, and I’m not sure if it was the headset or just the seat that caused my upper back to be sore.

I think the impact from the skidding Jeep was only about 35 MPH. It was a solid punch.
