If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Havent posted in a long while. I have a 2011 titanium 3.8 tech package genesis.

I came out of an S4 with the addition of 2 kids and the genny was the perfect car to schlep the kids around in while also providing the room and quitness i wanted for my next driving experience.

I am considering the 3.8 ultimate AWD as an upgrade. I saw a base model at my dealership and crawled all over it but i couldnt put my finger on what was weird until i re-read the specs.

What is up with losing 3.6 inches of rear leg room when they stretched out the wheels?!

I really need that space what with 1 kid still in a car seat and kicking the back of my car seat every chance she gets.

Anyone provide commentary and real world thoughts going from previous genesis to the new one? Thanks in advance

I wonder if the new seats in the Tech and Ultimate are thicker and that's the reason for the "shrinkage"? Has anyone seen any specs that may bear this out? However, I've had a number of relatively tall back seat passengers and haven't heard any complaints.

Some things that contributed to that reduction are the lowered silhouette of the car but mostly the revised rear suspension engineered to improve ride by allowing more travel. It also reduced the size of the trunk if that’s a big consideration for you. But it sure does ride good.

Overall cabin space increased. I think it has to do with how far the front seats travel has increased providing more front legroom. Unless you are a pro basketball player or the size of one your front seat adjustment will probably be up far enough to fit 2 six footers in the rear comfortably.

I agree. The front seats seen to travel back further. The legroom measurements are taken with the front seat fully back. I have a 2015 and a 2012 genesis, and with the driver seat set to my driving position, the rear leg room seems the same as in a 2012. I think unless you are very tall and use up all the extra front leg room, the new and old genesis will have similar rear leg room. I recommend going to the dealer and trying out both models if you want to be sure.

I have to agree with others that this is essentially an artifact of how the measurement is performed. The '15 is not lacking in rear leg room.

Back seat leg room is ample in the 2015.

1 car seat? Move her to the right side of the vehicle. Problem solved.

This comes up in all the reviews as the numbers do show it shrunk however in reality it hardly moved at all. It has also been mentioned the new Genesis outclasses all its competition in rear leg room which include the Mercedes E series and Lexus so it's not like it is tiny back there. Maybe lost a real inch or less but no more.

I see no real diffence in the amount of leg room, but the hard seat-back in the 2015 does make a difference. The seat back in my 2009 was soft and there was more toe room underneath. It is a different feeling brushing a soft seat back vs a hard one with your knees.

Both are classified at EPA "Large" category cars.

The 2014 and earlier models had 109 cubic feet of interior passenger volume.
The 2015 models have 108 cubic feet of interior volume.

The 2014 and earlier had 16 cubic feet of cargo volume
The 2015 models have 15 cubic feet of cargo volume

The difference between them is minimal.
