  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I have a 2015 3.8 G2. I am only getting around 19000 miles off of my rear set of tires. I have 80000 mile michlin's and they claim that it is a deficiency of the car and not their tires. Can anybody help please

That’s about all you can get. Car is just hard on back tires.

I got about 70,000kms out of my DWS06 on a 5.0 AWD. Maybe the AWD evens it out or I don't drive it that hard?

How hard do you push the pedal when accelerating?
Back before limited slip differentials a friends father could not figure out why the right rear tire wore so fast. He let his teen aged son drive it.

My 2018 is at 26000 and has decent meat left.

I wish I could tell you I have a lead foot but no I'm 70 years old and keep it at the limit. My front tires wear like they should be it's just the rear tires do not last at all

20 something K is about right for the 5.0 since it has staggered fitment. Even though your tires can be warrantied for let's say 40k, only 20k applies for the staggered setup, since they can't be rotated. It's also worth mentioning that the pressures can vary between front & back on that setup. For the 5.0 the placard says 33psi front, 35psi back.

If you're tires are the same size all around, then it's possible to get a lot more mileage out of them.

My old Inifinti had staggered fitment as well - I always got a lot less out of the rears than fronts.

AWD gets significantly more mileage on tires since they’re a matched set. 2wd staggered is just brutal on rubber.

My 5.0 AWD is staggered and eats rear tires.

same problem with me with awd 3.8 2016....wondering what i can do about it?

My AWD doesn't get more mileage.
What are you getting? The AWD would get more than a staggered setup but my AWD get at least into the low 30s.

Get your car aligned at an independent alignment house. I had the same problem and my dealer said that my car was properly aligned and that the rear alignment could not be modified. I took it to an independent watched while he aligned all four wheels. I think my Hyundai dealer did not have the equiptment to perform a proper alignment of a Genesis.

I have been reading this thread and can't find anything about ROTATING tires. I rotate my tires at every oil change and the tires all look identical.
Maybe this is the problem and the fix.

I totally agree with pmckechnie. When you install new tires, do the alignment, rotate every oil change (approx. every 5k miles) and you will be good to go. Also, put your Michelin tires in a trash can because that is where they belong. Get your self a set of decent tires of a different brand. My personal favorite is Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus. They have more than 20k miles and they still have more than half of the thread left on them. Also, remember to maintain proper PSI in your tires. They are still quiet and comfortable. Brand new, OEM Michellins lasted only 12k before they got very loud and ride became harsh.

You can't rotate staggered tires. At most you can swap them which does nothing for camber wear.

It would be rare to have a 2wd without staggered tires, even the base models got them.

I must have had 2 rare cars. A 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 base and now a 2018 Genesis G80 3.8 base.
Both car had the same size tires all around (non-staggered). In fact both cars had/have the same size
tires all the way round. 245/45/19.

The 5.0 has staggered tires. the 3.8 does not.

5.0 here with staggered setup, on Michelin Pilot Sport 3+, 27k miles so far, looking like its good for another 10k or so. I rotate side to side each oil change. I drive pretty aggressively too.
