  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rearview Camera Issue - I should be thankful?

Jesus, this does not give me a warm and gushy feeling about this car and all the quirks.

It's a hit or miss with cars. I've had 14 cars and this is my worst experience by far. It was bound to happen at some point but I'm glad it happened with a car that is under warranty.
things happen. doesn't mean it will affect every car made.

bad weld, bad crimp, loose wire, mashed wire, all things that can be overlooked during a build and result in what the OP is experiencing.

if it were a model wide problem you would hear a lot more people complaining. I would be willing to bet that somewhere in that harness something got pinched or mashed and it is a 1 off situation.

It's definitely a 1 off. It has nothing to do with Hyundai quality. I still love the car and I'm excited to get it back. Granted, first model years are never the way to go. Just look at the Stinger...
Oh, I get that but after dropping off my car 5 times for random stupid stuff its enough to lose some confidence.

I've lost confidence in the dealership, not HMA. They have replaced over $9k worth of parts plus how ever many man hours. I'm upset but, there's more in life to worry about. They gave me a loaner, I'm alright.
They are at least making great effort to fix it.

Lemon laws were enacted before Genesis existed for reasons such as this.

Very good effort indeed at no cost to me.
I'm glad to see they responded as they have for a small problem.

They have responded it a way that is expected from the customer in my opinion. Trading out 3 head units and 3 cameras was enough to warrant their next steps. Hopefully these engineers have the magic touch.

Never heard of such a thing but maybe the 7th time's the charm.

Update:

Dealership meant this coming Tuesday that they will be here, not this past.

Better Business Bureau update:

The rep I am working with called me and explained how the process works. He said Hyundai will not give me what I stated on the Form so arbitration is next:

- I decline and move no further with the BBB. All other resolutions or avenues will be self-initiated with private practices.

- I agree, proceed with arbitration, and schedule a hearing to have words exchanged with the arbitrator. I have three options at the moment; replace the vehicle, repurchase the vehicle, or have repairs done. I will chose one or two going into the hearing but I am not guaranteed my asserted request.

- I agree, proceed with arbitration, lose and case closed with the car still attempting to be fixed.

- Win arbitration with either replacing or repurchasing of vehicle. The catch; with a replacement, I keep my loan, pay the same amount monthly and add the usage fee to my loan ( around $4200). With a repurchase, they pay off the loan, pay me back what I have paid towards the car and subtract that from the usage fee. This option would be the only option where I feel I come out on top. I would make around $2k if they repurchase the vehicle.

Currently, I think the best option is a repurchase. I make money, I don't have the car payment anymore, slate clean. But......... I love the car and it's under warranty. If these engineers fix the issue, I'll keep it and close the case. If not, a repurchase is my best option. Thoughts?

BBB is a total joke as well, I made a complaint against a vendor, while the vendor kept adding remarks I had no way of going back in to add in anything. BBB can suck it.

I have to believe that them fixing the problem is the only possible outcome as it is probably cheaper for them to replace every piece of the system, camera, wires, connectors, etc., then replacing/repurchasing. Just not something they will have happen since in reality there probably is not much involved in the system.

So far, they’ve easily spend $8k in parts. 3 headunits, 3 cameras and parking sensors. It’s adding up for them.

Not really since they get the parts back and can reuse them but your dealer has spent, probably wasted, a lot of time and money.

They verified the head units, which were refurbished, were defective. They wouldn't have been able to reuse them. The man hours is what is hurting the dealership. $115/hr with around 30-35 hours. $4k in labor charges probably doesn't sit well with the manager or service advisor.

FINAL update:

Car is back and in good hands. Camera is working as it should and all is well. I still have the case open with BBB.

The engineers replaced wires that are right under the trunk arms. The dealership here did not think of doing that the first time so it seemed to be an easy fix for them. They did state that 2015 model years were given an electrical line that was too short for the continuous opening and closing of the trunk. Yes it stayed connected for 3 years, but I have seen cameras work after 10 years. The remedy was a longer wire and clean up of all wires they could get to without removing the headliner.

53 days without it and it's finally fixed. Hopefully the last time I will post in this thread regarding repairs.
