  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Reasons for a dirty rear-end?

It's no secret that the G2's rear-end is a magnet for dirt and very difficult to keep clean even with mud guards so I'm wondering if maybe the design of the undercarriage is the cause.

Other cars are generally open underneath which tends to trap water and debris in the crevices under the car, whereas with the covered undercarriage of the Genesis, the water travels straight back and is drawn up to the rear of the car.

I wonder if there's any way to direct the flow of road debris down rather than up.

My Optima was the same way.. the rear bumper ledge would get filthy.... Where did you get the mud guards? how do they look on the car?

I haven't added mud guards (yet) as I understood they don't seem to do a lot but here's the link I was going to buy them from.

I think they look great but will they help is another question.

thanks Focus.. i just ordered them.. i read throgh the install post... now i need to decide whether to keep them black or color match them to the car...

The guards are actually better-termed splash guards. Why would anybody ever paint them? They're meant to get dirty.

The splash guards don't really help with the vortex of dirt on the rear bumper. I bought the splash guards over a year ago and the rear always gets so dirty.

it's just for a cleaner look so they blend in better with the vehicle. I think the black will look good anyway.

I agree the black will look great and I also think a matching grey would blend very well too. Do what you feel is best and ignore the nattering nabobs ;)

Thank you, Spiro.

They are rubberized (plastic) and bend. Not a very good surface to paint. I've caught them on a curb, once or twice. Ripped one clean off. That would likely shatter any paint. They are meant to go nekid and they look great that way.

I think the rear collects dirt because of aerodynamics. There is an area of still air around the back so the dirt settles out. I'll bet most new cars have the same problem.

Mine came with mud guards installed. I like the way they look.

looks great.. mine will here thursday... :)

Looks great BUT they don't help :=(

Since most of the rear end is a plastic like material, static electricity from driving, is the culprit
