Rebadging a Leased Genesis?

Just wondered what "rules" others have encountered with rebadging a leased car. Is it a no-no? Will the dealer do it as part of the deal? Do the badges do any permanent damage that can't be reversed when the car is turned in at the end of the lease?

Ask them... and let them do the work.

Check the fine print on the lease contract... adding factory options during the lease.
If not, would it be construed as willful defacing/destruction?

Why would I want to upgrade a lease vehicle (wheels,exhaust, badges)... just doesn't feel right.

I'm leasing my 2010. Had it since Feb 2010. They said they'd re-badge it for $100. I did it myself. $15 e-bay for the rear. I also got some nice rims / tires, (see photos). The stock rims and tires are in the garage rafters, and are going back on the car when I turn it in. New rims will go on the next car. The slanted 'H' from the trunk is in my desk drawer and will easily silicone back on if the dealer whines. (a few stratigicly placed drops of clear silicone from a tube works great! I've hae the 'GENESIS 4.6' on the rear off & on several times.... just to be different. The only complaint that the dealer will have is that they get back the same set of (brand new) Dunflop tires that were on it. Go ahead and rebadge it, taking your time while removing the rear 'H' as to not break it! It's plastic and will snap if you're not careful. If you get rims and tires, just make sure it's a set you'd like to keep for another car. I'm proud of the way mine looks.

I removed mine easily... I was able to pick the Genesis 4.6 off with my bare hands!

The other H was much more difficult

If you have had the car for a couple of months or more I would say leave it. After about one month I removed the H with no problems at all, six months later I removed the Genesis 4.6 and a shadow of the Genesis 4.6 was left on the car. It took some serious work but I was able to get it to where it was hardly noticeable. I order a new Genesis 4.6 emblem and put it back on.
Good luck... This is just my experience and my opinion,the car looks nice either way but I think I prefer it with the Genesis 4.6 emblem left on.
Please note that I know and followed all the proper procedures.

I'm wondering if the color matters after a few months of asstd weather conditions. My Genesis 4.6 came off sooooooo easy. I used fishing line and did the 'flossing' tecnique. After a few months, I put it back on. I wanted the engine size to be known. Can you say EGO ?

My car is black. On my car the Genesis 4.6 emblem had really adhered to the car. It took allot of work to get the glue off. I had no problems when I took the H off. In both cases all I used was a good dental floss. On a lighter car the shadow may not show as much.

for those who are worried about oxidation once the old logo's removed:
Here are the steps I did to remove them. Mine's black, about 6 months on the lot before I removed the Genesis logo:
1. use goo-gone to remove all the adhesive residue
2. wash and dry the area
3. use a clay bar on the it (make sure you spray some detailer lubricant on it the area first)
4. polish the area with Polishing wax
5. wipe it off right away, don't let it dry.

NOT a trace of oxidation left.

Another great solvent for just about anything is Oil-Flo (http://www.titanlabs.net/oilflo.htm). I use it all the time - haven't found anything it won't remove (except maybe dried epoxy) and it doesn't damage finished surfaces. It's the only solvent I have found that will remove solar film and film residue without collateral damage.

OK, I picked up my 2011 Sapphire Blue/Cashmere 4.6 last Friday, so this is no longer a hypothetical question for me

I got the dealer to arrange the rebadging. They set something up at a local shop. I picked the car up today, and am happy with the front and rear wings, but I'm not so sure about the wheels. Instead of putting on the OEM replacements for the 18-inch V8 caps, it looks like they glued something on top of the "H" caps... Maybe that's a normal way to do it, but it wasn't what I expected.

Maybe I'm anal, but that's not what I was expecting.

Before I just buy the OEM caps for ~$240, can anyone tell me what the installers did, and if there is anything I can do to make them look a little more professional?

I bought a winged steering wheel emblem on eBay. It fits and looks GREAT in my wife's Veracruz, but it is too small for the Genesis. I'm guessing it was made for the Genny coupe?

I already ordered the winged airbag, so that will be taken care of. Trying to decide whether it's worth spending another $240 to make the wheels look better.

What they did is glue or otherwise fasten (I doubt that tape would hold on to a wheel spinning that fast) the 17" Korean wheel caps (that fit perfectly on a 17" US wheel) on to your 18" wheels. You have been ripped off.

Just went out to show my wife, and noticed they scratched up the trunk getting the "H" off as well. And, I noticed when I was pulling up to pick up the car that they had left my window open and it was raining. I paid for it, but the whole thing was setup by the dealer. Lets see if they make it right... I guess the dealer uses this place all the time.

i did a complete rebadge of my leased 2009 and when i returned it there were no questions asked. Car was on the lot for less than a week when it sold

Likewise. I changed the trunk badge on my leased 2009 V6 Tech and added the hood badge. No questions asked at all when I took it back.

I changed the trunk badge on 2011 V6 Tech within a week of getting it. I do not expect any questions from the dealer when I take it back in 2013...

As long as you apply them correctly and don't damage the paint, dealers are not going to complain. Many dealers were replacing the badges as soon as the new cars rolled off the truck until Hyundai told them not to do that anymore (although dealers will get it done for you after the sale).
