  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm getting road noise from my tires --> w-w-w-w-w-w that hits its stride around 45 mph. Annoying, but doesn't affect the ride (yet). Dealer advised rebalancing and alignment for about $140. I'm considering replacing all 4 tires with Bridgestone Serenity's since I'm in the "harsh ride" camp. However, I'm leery of spending $900 to replace tires with only 11.6k miles.

I had the car towed a few months back (failed fuel pump) which could explain an alignment issue. The tires only started making the noise about a week after getting the car back and it's become more noticeable over time. So perhaps the rebalancing and alignment will do the trick. At the same time, the idea of better riding tires is attractive, but expensive.

Advice / guidance?

Rebalanacing will not make road noise less. Alignment may help if your car has a bad mis-alignment problem. BTW towing should not have caused an alignment problem, curbs and pot holes can put your car out of alignment in a second.

If you get new tires I would like to suggest the Michelin Energy Saver A/S the tires run about $185.00 ea. Michelin offers a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. IMO this is one of best tires out there for the Genesis, the Bridgestone Serenity is a nice tire too. Your tires are probably cupping and that is why you are getting the noise.
An alignment and balance will not solve your problem. You could find out which tires are cupping and have them switched around which may or may not get rid of the noise but worth a try. Find a reputable tire dealer.

Putting good tires on, road force balancing, and getting a 4 wheel alignment has provided me with a much better driving experience. Dunlops were noisy and provided an unpleasant ride.

I'm intrigued by the Energy Saver tires but it seems like they are marketed towards Prius and Fusion owners rather than those of us with 375 horses. But the price sure is enticing.

My tire dealer told me that a V speed rating in this tire is closer to a performance tire. The tire carries an HY code for Hyundai. I can tell you from experience that the tire grips better than the Michelin Pilot Sport Plus A/S which is an Y speed rated Ultra High Performance Tire. As I stated I have had the OEM Dunlop's, Continental Extreme DWS, Michelin Pilot HX mxm4 and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my Genesis and I like the Michelin Energy Saver the best. I am not an aggressive driver but I do require a tire that will perform well. If you go to the Michelin Tire sight they recommend in their tires the Michelin Pilot HX mxm4 and Michelin Energy Saver A/S for the Genesis 4.6 both carry the HY code for Hyundai.
As the Michelin Energy Saver A/S was just released a few months ago in a size 235-50-18 97V I may be one in a very few with this tire on a Genesis.
The following tires have a 30 day ride guarantee:
Michelin
Bridgestone
Continental
I would see if the tire dealer would let me try the tires.

If you still have them, get rid of the Dun-After-A-Lap tires and get some new ones. Some other folks have already commented on some good ones to consider above as replacement tires.
